The RoleAspenTech is seeking a highly-skilled Product Designer to join our Manufacturing and Supply Chain (MSC) group. In this role, you will work closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, System Architects, and development teams to design features and workflows that deliver meaningful impact for refinery and petrochemical professionals.
This position is focused on understanding the customer's business processes and priorities, how they use our software, and how to translate that understanding into effective, usable product features. You will analyze complex operational workflows, define how users interact with new capabilities, and ensure the usability and clarity of the solutions delivered. This position requires a strong blend of systems thinking, usercentered design expertise, crossfunctional collaboration, and the ability to design in a modern SAFe Agile environment.
As a member of the MSC team, you will help design features for planning and scheduling solutions for complex industrial processes across global networks. You will play a key role in shaping how users navigate these workflows, make decisions, and accomplish their goals within our products.
Your Impact
- Partner with Product Owners and Product Managers to understand customer needs, business priorities, and operational workflows that drive feature development.
- Analyze how customers use the software today-tasks, decisions, constraints-and use this knowledge to inform feature design.
- Work closely with development teams to define the functional design of new features, including workflows, interactions, data needs, and usability considerations.
- Create clear design artifacts such as workflow diagrams, interaction flows, feature specifications, and low to midfidelity prototypes.
- Ensure that feature designs support usability, clarity, and consistency across the product.
- Participate in user research and customer discussions to validate workflows, gather feedback, and refine feature designs.
- Collaborate with System Architects and developers to ensure designs are technically feasible and aligned with the product architecture.
- Break down design work into actionable tasks for incremental delivery in a SAFe Agile environment.
- Support user acceptance testing and validate that implemented features match the intended design and user needs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, patterns, and shared understanding across the MSC group.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Design, or related field-or equivalent experience.
- 3-6 years of experience in product design, workflow design, or a similar role involved in defining product behavior and usability.
- Experience in development of and/or working with industrial software solutions
- Ability to understand customer business goals, domain workflows, and technical processes, and use that knowledge to guide feature design.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, particularly around workflow modeling and feature definition.
- Experience creating design artifacts such as user workflows, interaction flows, and feature specifications.
- Ability to conduct or participate in user interviews, workflow observations, and usability evaluations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with crossfunctional teams.
- Comfortable working in Agile or SAFe environments.
- Passion for delivering customer value through innovative solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with manufacturing, industrial automation, supply chain, or operations software.
- Familiarity with Agile and SAFe methodologies.
- Experience collaborating closely with engineering teams on technical workflows.
