As an Equipment Operator with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you play a vital role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our roadways, especially during the challenging winter months when snow removal is essential. Your duties encompass not only snow plowing but also participation in various construction projects, where your skills directly impact the infrastructure and safety of the traveling public. Each day offers physically demanding tasks that emphasize teamwork and dedication. In this position, you will operate heavy machinery while also handling minor repairs and routine maintenance on your equipment and vehicles. Keeping detailed records through daily logs and reports is crucial for tracking equipment usage and maintenance history, promoting operational efficiency and accountability within the team. At the end of each day, you can take pride in knowing that your contributions significantly enhance road safety and improve the quality of life for many residents, making your role as an Equipment Operator both fulfilling and impactful. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,988.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- Must possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
- Must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- Employees will be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
Additional Requirements:
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
