The Role:
Our site in San Luis Obispo, CA is seeking a Materials Quality Engineering Co-Op to join our team for the Fall 2026 season. This assignment is intended to be 6 months in duration.
In this role, the Materials Quality Engineer Co-Op will support the SLO site Materials Quality Engineering team in the identification, documentation, and disposition of nonconforming incoming raw materials. The Co-Op will work closely with Materials Quality Engineers, Manufacturing, Incoming Inspection, Engineering, R&D, Supply Chain, and Inventory Control to support timely resolution of supplier-related quality issues that impact manufacturing operations.

This position provides hands-on exposure to Entegris quality systems, supplier interaction workflows, and manufacturing support processes. The Co-Op will assist with quality report generation, project facilitation, internal containment activities, and data collection to support supplier investigations, while developing foundational problem-solving, technical, and cross-functional communication skills.

What You'll Do:

  • Generate ZVQNs for incoming raw materials identified as nonconforming due to supplier-related issues
  • Support advancement of ZVQNs by coordinating RMA/RTV activities, including:
  • Completing supplier return authorization forms
  • Collaborating with Buyers to ensure purchase orders are updated with appropriate return and receiving lines
  • Coordinating with Inventory Control to ensure proper inventory transactions
  • Creating DRFs and coordinating material movement to shipping when required
  • Assist Materials Quality Engineers with supplier investigations by working cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Incoming Quality Inspection, Engineering, and R&D
  • Support development of clear problem statements for nonconforming raw materials through review of engineering specifications, drawings, and material requirements
  • Learn and use basic measurement tools and inspection equipment to collect data on materials identified as potentially nonconforming
  • Support internal containment activities aligned with 8D methodology
  • Initiate ETQ Management of Change (MOC) records at a preliminary (skeleton) level under MQE guidance.

What We Seek:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented processes and quality procedures
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements, OR willingness to learn
  • Ability to collect, organize, and document data accurately in support of quality investigations
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing or lab-adjacent environment and interacting with cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to learn internal systems and software tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functions

Desired Major(s) & Graduation Year:

  • Currently enrolled students pursuing an Associate's or bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline

Eligibility:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student
  • Available to work 40 hours a week, M-F (8a-5p) beginning in mid-May/June through August/September.
  • Must be familiar with the university's requirements to participate in a co-op program
  • Entegris is not currently hiring candidates for co-ops/internships who will need, now or at any time in the future, Entegris sponsorship through the H1-B lottery.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability and willingness to adhere to site safety requirements, wear safety glasses/goggles, steel-toe shoes, hard hats in some areas, noisy environments, wear clean room gowns in some spaces.

Compensation: $20-$32 hourly range with actual pay dependent on graduation year and candidate skillset
