2026 Summer Intern - Product Development - Immunology - Rheumatology and Nephrology

Department Summary

In our Immunology group, we specialize in the high-stakes, high-impact world of both Rheumatology and Nephrology, pushing innovative therapies through the final, critical hurdles of development to reach patients facing significant unmet needs. We don't just manage a portfolio; we drive a massive engine of concurrent global trials and diverse projects aimed at dismantling complex autoimmune conditions. As a 2026 Summer Intern, you won't be sitting on the sidelines-you'll be embedded in a fast-paced environment where the science is rigorous, the pipeline is deep, and the mission is clear: turning breakthrough molecules into the next standard of care.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, On - Site.

The Opportunity

  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary global team meetings, collaborating with Regulatory, Medical Affairs, and Commercial teams to ensure clinical development plans align with patient needs and market access strategies.

  • Support the clinical lead in analyzing emerging data from Phase II/III trials, helping to identify trends or signals that inform unique results and perhaps contribute to future protocol adjustments and future study designs in Rheumatology and Nephrology.

  • Identify and complete a specific Summer project related to one or more aspects of clinical trial results and outcomes.

  • Network with other Summer Interns and cross-functional teammates to learn about all aspects of drug development

  • Present findings of Summer internship at an internal Genentech meeting at the end of the Summer.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education:

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Liberal arts, Humanities, or Science.

Required Skills:

  • Collaborative Spirit: A "team-first" mentality with the interpersonal skills needed to work across different functional areas (like clinical, regulatory, or data science) in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Adaptability in Fast-Paced Environments: Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects or priorities simultaneously-whether in a lab, a previous internship, or a rigorous academic setting.

  • Analytical Curiosity: A proven ability to synthesize complex information from scientific literature or data sets and translate it into clear, actionable insights.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and collaboration.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $24.00 - $40.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
