As a Bankruptcy Specialist, you'll support our credit union members during a critical point in their financial journey. In this role, you'll accurately review and process bankruptcy filings, update and maintain account records, and ensure all actions are completed in accordance with legal and internal guidelines. Your work helps protect both the member and the organization by ensuring accounts are handled correctly and with care.

Through your attention to detail, organization, and consistency, you help create clarity and stability for members navigating a complex and often stressful situation. Your role directly contributes to a respectful, compliant, and well-managed experience for members, and your efforts are valued as an essential part of the team's success.

What we expect from you:



  • A local residence commutable to Las Vegas, NV - all shifts will be worked in-office from our Ops Center on W. Sahara, zip code 89117.
  • Scheduling flexibility - the Collections department operates 6 days a week. Monday - Friday 6:00AM - 6:00PM PT, and Saturdays 6:00AM-3:30PM PT.
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Daily, you will:



  • Work onsite at our Ops Center in Las Vegas, NV to support the processing and administration of bankruptcy accounts across financial products (checking, savings, credit cards, loans, etc.)
  • Review, track, and update bankruptcy filings and related documentation in accordance with legal and internal requirements
  • Apply established procedures and available resources to ensure accurate account handling and timely processing
  • Build foundational knowledge of bankruptcy processes and regulations to become a reliable subject-matter resource
  • Apply attention to detail and organizational skills to support compliant, well-documented outcomes
  • Find value in contributing to accurate records and processes that support members and the organization


Specifics about this opportunity:



  • Applicants must have reliable transportation to get to their training and shifts onsite daily on time.
  • Training is critical to success in this role; candidates unable to commit to perfect attendance for 90 days need not apply.
  • Applicants for this role must have scheduling flexibility to accept any 40 hours/ week production schedule offered; the currently-available production schedules is Monday - Friday 9:00AM PT-6:00PM PT

Summary:

The Bankruptcy Specialist is responsible for ensuring all internal processes, involving bankruptcy proceedings involving member loans/accounts, are handled efficiently. This includes, but is not limited to, receiving and processing all bankruptcy correspondence, including new filings, confirmations, dismissals and discharges; updating core processing and collection systems with appropriate information and bankruptcy statuses; and processing bankruptcy Trustee payments.

Responsibilities:



  • Monitor the Electronic Court Filing System (ECF) for notification of new bankruptcy cases, dismissals, objections and discharges. Identify the applicable account and document the credit union's core processing and collection system. Ensure documentation is imaged.
  • The Bankruptcy Specialist is responsible for processing bankruptcy mail and identifying the appropriate credit union account. This includes documenting the credit union's collection system and ensuring documentation is imaged.
  • Ensures communication with members, credit bureaus, members' attorneys, credit union attorneys, bankruptcy trustees and courts is always professional and does not violate bankruptcy rules.
  • Monitors and documents all correspondence with the courts including all motions, orders, and objections.
  • Receives all payments from bankruptcy trustees and ensures appropriate principal and interest allocation. Reviews trustee website to reconcile credit union and trustee accounting. Process loan modifications as required per internal procedures.
  • Promotes honest and open communication throughout the credit union.
  • Demonstrates behaviors that are consistent with the credit union's values, philosophies, and leadership characteristics.
  • Work with other credit union departments to ensure the workflow or process is providing the best service to both member and internal clients.
  • Performs back-up support as needed for other Loss Mitigation department responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of Collections or previous bankruptcy experience.
  • Ability to handle personal and sensitive member issues with tact, courtesy and empathy.
  • Ability to work with internal partners to create efficiencies and provide superior service to our members.
  • Knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer/commercial bankruptcy rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of credit union services and products.
  • Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Able to work effectively individually and within a team environment.
  • Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict and miscommunications.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Requires intermediate proficiency in typing (40-60 WPM) and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Technically proficient and competent with Microsoft applications, specifically Word, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Flexibility with work schedule is also required.

Summary:

Responsible for preparing documentation and bankruptcy materials for attorney review. Files documents with the appropriate courts. Ensures full compliance with bankruptcy regulations. Monitors accounts throughout the bankruptcy process and contacts appropriate parties as necessary.

Responsibilities:



  • Assists attorneys with all aspects of loan enforcement and workouts, including State court enforcement actions and Federal court bankruptcy cases.
  • Performs skip-tracing, asset searches, and review of documents produced in judgment enforcement process.
  • Prepares proofs of claim, motions for relief, etc. Conducts PACER research and reporting.
  • Handles service of process, filing pleadings, and related tasks.
  • Reviews and organizes a significant number of documents and information.
  • Maintains project management systems, and implements protocols for efficient completion of tasks.
  • Prepares and drafts legal documents such as notices, motions, briefs, and form documents for filing.
  • Dockets and takes appropriate action to monitor and meet deadlines.
  • Provides regular reporting to management on status of open cases, including progress since previous report was provided.
  • Ensures full compliance with the Credit Union Service Standards, policies, and procedures; and with the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications:



  • Requires a High School diploma (Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred) and at least two years of bankruptcy and other relevant lending experience.
  • Requires strong analytical abilities and a broad knowledge of credit fundamentals and relevant regulations.
  • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to bankruptcy situations.
  • Must possess organizational skills and proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software applications, as well as effective written/verbal communication.
  • Requires exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface with members and business partners, and with team members across all levels of the Credit Union.
  • Requires ability to rely on experience and the judgment to know when to seek additional help in developing approaches for given situations.
