Job Summary

This position is supported by onetime funding and is limited to a oneyear term.

Dr. Winger's research is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of mutations in kinases and applying those findings to improve the care of children and adults with blood diseases and cancer. The posted position is for an entry-level scientist who will carry out experiments under supervision initially and then more independently and carry out general laboratory maintenance tasks. Experiments will include basic molecular biology experiments, including PCR, cloning, western blots, cell line generation, and tissue culture-based experiments such as dose-response assays. The person will also be expected to do basic work up, analyze, and present data. This position requires some prior research laboratory experience and the ability to follow directions closely and work with post-docs and graduate students.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $28.12 - $33.57 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy is a multi-faceted department with centers, laboratories, and
educational programs with many locations at UCSF (Parnassus, Mission Bay and ZSFG) and throughout
the state. It is home to a number of functional units, including the Center for Translational and Policy
Research on Personalized Medicine (TRANSPERS), Drug Research Unit (DRU), Medication Outcomes
Center (MOC), and the California Poison Control System (CPCS). The department also delivers a substantial portion of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum at UCSF.

Required Qualifications


  • BA/BS in a replated science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge or research experience in a laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Comfortable with basic lab techniques such as pipetting
  • Good collaborator and good at working with others
