(RT) Clinical Manager - Respiratory Therapy

Description Under the direction of the Administrative Director of Respiratory Care Services the Clinical Manager will be responsible for the coordination, monitoring and development of Respiratory Care Staff. The Clinical Manager is responsible for management of RCS staff therapists and equipment technicians. The incumbent will hold oversight of key department functions impacting day-to-day operations including coordination of staff schedules and assignments, education, equipment evaluation, development of RCS policy and procedures, and research. The incumbent will also participate in process and quality improvement projects in RCS and collaborate on efforts driven by a multidisciplinary team. The Clinical Manager also reviews and responds to safety events.

In collaboration with the Director of RCS, the incumbent will assist with oversight of department finances, hiring, supply chain, UMC operations, productivity, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in the planning and implementation of department initiatives and goals, lead councils,
attend committee meetings, carry out general human resources functions related to time and attendance and correction action.

This position works closely with Respiratory Care Staff and leadership team to provide expertise in all areas of Respiratory Care and reports to the Director of Respiratory Care Services.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree (Required)
Master's Degree (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
At least 10 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience in clinical leadership roles in Respiratory Care, such as Department Educator, Supervisor, Clinical Advisor, Clinical Specialist, or Shift Coordinator. Candidate's experience should include Critical Care in a Pediatric environment. (Required)

5 years - Manager or supervisory experience in Respiratory Care. (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of pediatric healthcare standards in Respiratory Care with related clinical skill and competence.
Strong knowledge of JACHO and other regulatory agency requirements.
Ability to supervise, advice, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
Demonstrates a personal commitment to continuing education and remains current on the developments and progress in Respiratory Care.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards in Respiratory Care.
Exercise good judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information and situations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize workload.
Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss these with the patient, family, and other members of the health care team.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Licensed by the District of Columbia (DOH) Health Regulation and Licensing Administration. (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS) (Required)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (Required)
  • STABLE (Preferred)

Department Strategic Planning:

  • Contributes to the strategic plan for department services, including short-term and long-term objectives
  • Collects and analyzes quality metrics and evaluates effectiveness of department procedures for care delivery
  • Collaborates with RCS leadership to plan and modify department practices, policy, and procedures for delivery of respiratory care

Program and Service Administration and Implementation:

  • Implements strategic plan through management of day-to-day operations of department
  • Troubleshoots operational issues and develops action plans to resolve
  • Collaborates with upper management on significant operational issues/barriers
  • Ensures RCS staff compliance with hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory standards
  • Assists RCS Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of services, programs, policies and procedures, performance standards, and departmental goals and productivity
  • Collaborates with upper management to evaluate equipment and program initiatives for effectiveness, feasibility, and cost
  • Reviews and responds to safety event reports

Human Resources Management:

  • In collaboration with RCS Director, hires, develops, and directs assigned staff to meet operational objectives
  • Provides timely coaching and performance feedback
  • Develops staffing plan/schedule and deploys staff appropriately to optimize productivity and ensure quality services
  • Monitors time and attendance and administers corrective action in accordance with union and hospital guidelines
  • Completes annual performance reviews for direct reports

Information Resources Management:

  • Proficient in the use of administrative and clinical information resources and decision-support tools
  • Proficient in compiling and analyzing data to support upper management decision-making

Leadership

  • Perform all patient care according to hospital, respiratory care services department, and other interdepartmental policy and procedures to all age ranges of patients treated at CNH
  • Attend management meetings held by RCS and HBS leadership
  • Operate as a resource person throughout the entire organization, to interface with interdisciplinary team members in all respiratory care services, education, and performance/quality improvement related matters
  • Role model effective conflict management skills

Research

  • Use literature and research findings to support practice decisions
  • Evaluate and disseminate research related to best practices in respiratory care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary research efforts

Communication

  • Act as a role model through communicating responsively and respectfully
  • Share pertinent educational information with staff and applicable ancillary teams
