Dive into cutting-edge research and innovation with the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL)! The Trace Nuclear Measurement Technology Group is seeking an enthusiastic and talented undergraduate intern to join our team for ten weeks. This position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to a project involving the synthesis and characterization of metal oxide particles derived from feedstock solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Material Development: Create and refine feedstock materials using diverse elements and compounds.
  • Particle Synthesis: Assist in the production and synthesis of actinide metal oxide particles.
  • Data-Driven Analysis: Collect, interpret, and analyze critical data to support particle characterization research.
  • Collaborative Research: Work alongside experienced researchers to gain hands-on expertise in experimental chemistry, particle analysis, and laboratory techniques.
  • Commitment to Safety: Adhere to SRNL's "Safe Conduct of Research Principles," which will ensure a high standard of safety in all laboratory work.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizenship is required to work at SRNL.
  • Enrollment in an undergraduate program in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, materials science, chemistry, or a related field.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.8 or higher as a rising junior or junior in college.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with wet chemistry techniques, such as solution preparation.
  • Familiarity with actinide oxides or similar oxides.
  • Proficiency in software tools like Python or R for conducting data analysis and visualization.
