Job Summary

The Vice President of Support Services provides executive leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for a comprehensive portfolio of non-clinical support departments across the healthcare system in accordance with policies, procedures, standards, and practices set by Health Campus Administration, State Department of Public Health and other local, State, and Federal regulatory agencies ensuring safe and efficient operations while maintaining the comfortable physical environment for patients, employees, medical staff, and the public. This role ensures that Plant Maintenance and Operations, Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition Services, Parking and Transportation, Environmental Health and Safety, Sustainability, Supply Chain and Contracts, Clinical Engineering, and Security Services operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with the organization's mission to deliver high-quality patient care. The Vice President drives operational excellence, regulatory compliance, service innovation, staff engagement, and financial stewardship, while partnering closely with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to support an exceptional patient, visitor, and employee experience. The Vice President has responsibility for all management and operations to include direct and/or indirect supervision of 1,400+ FTE and an annual budget comprised of labor and non-labor operational expenses totaling approximately $237M and annual revenue of $30M.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or finance and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive leadership and management experience in support services
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale budgets, capital programs, and cross-functional teams
  • Leadership and managerial experience to direct several professional teams working on unique and technically challenging projects in a complex administrative environment
  • Expert project management skills, including capital projects
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, project management and document management database programs. Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Outlook and Windows operating environment
  • Advanced knowledge of business and strategic planning, financial management/analysis, and organizational development
  • Expert skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques
  • Ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals which measure effectiveness of contributions to efficient operations of department
  • Highly sophisticated skills in strategy development, systems planning and change management
  • Expert leadership abilities to establish department goals, and to motivate and influence others to achieve
  • Expert knowledge in supply chain management, including procurement, logistics and inventory management
  • Collaborative Leadership: In a highly complex and matrixed organizational environment, skills to build collaborative relationships, develop strategies and engage in constructive problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or Advanced Degree preferred
  • Experience as a project manager of major capital projects with leadership responsibility for budgets, schedules, and team coordination
  • Experience working at an academic medical center
  • Demonstrated knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS and other regulatory agencies requirements in a hospital setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of university and campus policies, procedures, practices, and resources to direct project processes and procedures

Key Responsibilities

60% - Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for all Support Services divisions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, care delivery needs, and long-term campus planning.
  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, advising on operational readiness, capital planning, resource allocation, and enterprise-wide support needs.
  • Implements industry-leading best practices and develop innovative solutions for the delivery of support operations services which meet the many challenges of the health system.
  • Ensure operational performance objectives, service levels, and quality standards are achieved across all departments.
  • Drive systemwide consistency of policies, work standards, and service delivery models to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of short- and long-range plans for departments. Reviews and approves fiscal planning proposals for new programs, annual budgets and long-term goals.
  • Develops and recommends overall organizational policies and objectives within functional area and ensures their implementation.
  • Build operational reporting that employs a data driven approach for departments to demonstrate ongoing performance against institutional goals and objectives and align focus.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including clinicians, business unit leaders, finance leaders, etc. to algin services with clinical and operational needs.
  • Partner with clinical leaders to support patient-centered operations and address facility, environmental, and operational needs.
  • Evaluates and analyzes programs, services and financial performance and implements appropriate actions based on identified opportunities for improvement.
  • Creates value by improving processes, systems and asset utilization. Aligns opportunities with True North while engaging with physicians and frontline staff to improve operations.
  • Leads and supports UCDH initiatives spanning growth strategy and operational excellence by scoping, implementing and transitioning key services and programs.
  • Drives service excellence by leading quality and performance improvement efforts within Support Services Division and across sites.
