JOB SUMMARY

This is an exciting opportunity to obtain hands-on IT experience in a fast-growing biotech company. As a Service Desk IT Intern, you will be a key player on the Service Desk Team and will have the unique chance to garner a breath of experience across IT support services, while gaining valuable healthcare and biotechnology industry experience.

The ideal candidate will be ready to roll up their sleeves and bring their passion for the Service Desk Team into a fast-paced, innovative learning environment. This individual should bring energy every day and be eager to work collaboratively as we make hope a reality for patients with rare and orphan diseases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide on-site support to owners by responding to incoming requests in a timely manner, resolving issues to completion and ensuring employee satisfaction.
  • Focus on delivering a "High Touch", wherein the support is proactive, when possible, personal, and effective.
  • Create and maintain incidents and service requests in the IT Service Management tool.
  • Manage time and priorities effectively across projects, tickets, and other requests.
  • Analyze trends with service and provide relevant reports to stakeholders.
  • Operates within the IT Department's defined processes and procedures, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify trends in service issues and rapidly provide solutions.
  • Take ownership of issues and see them through to completion.
  • Escalate issues to an appropriate internal or external team.
  • Communicate with an internal and external team, both as a collaborator and as a subject matter expert.
  • Exposure to virtual reality (VR) software and hardware
  • Provide enterprise applications support including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Adobe, Zoom, and Teams
  • Support Security operations and reporting
    • Splunk
    • Carbon Black
    • Airlock, etc
  • Support data aggregation and reporting of IT and Security operational activities
  • Ability to report to senior leadership on activities and projects related to their internship
  • Provide support for lab hardware and software
  • Provide support for on-site hardware (peripherals and user endpoints)
  • Provide support for on-site meetings (hardware setup and configuration)Audiovisual (AV) support for company meetings and videos
  • Perform other job duties as assigned with high professionalism, congeniality, and flexibility.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in information systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Upper-class late Junior or Senior year are strongly preferred
  • Exceptional written and verbal communicator
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust quickly as priorities change
  • Team player who is willing to flex outside the prescribed role
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in relevant software or tools (if applicable)
  • Must be in proximity to the Discovery center Birmingham/BHM office: on-site presence required for support, meetings and intern program activities

INTERNSHIP DETAILS

  • Duration: 12 weeks, full-time
  • Program Dates: May 18, 2026 - August 7, 2026 *start and end dates are not flexible
  • Expected weekly hours: 32-35
  • Location: Birmingham, AL Discovery Center campus. This internship is not remote, and housing is not provided.
  • Compensation: Paid internship; wages are competitive and based on experience and academic level
