Interstates is looking for motivated individuals at multiple levels to join our growing team as Field Technicians and Field Designers. Whether you're building hands-on constructability or leading advanced project design, you'll play a crucial part in connecting our design and construction teams, ensuring project success from concept to completion. The Full Build Field Design is a fieldbased engineering role embedded with the project team to support construction execution from prefitout through project closeout. This role provides onsite technical support, ensures gear readiness and documentation accuracy, and serves as a primary resource for field issue resolution.

Core Responsibilities - All Levels
(Applicable to all Field Design team members, regardless of level):



  • Create and modify models and drawing sets using Interstates' established standards, tools, and workflows.
  • Apply model, scope, and fielddriven changes to deliverables as required.
  • Document, archive, and manage revisions according to established procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and construction partners using virtual and inperson tools.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and construction teams to deliver accurate, constructable designs.
  • Follow project workflows, schedules, and quality standards.
  • Perform selfchecks to identify and correct errors and deviations from best practices.
  • Support peer reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Continuously improve methods, efficiency, and technical skills through collaboration and learning.
  • Support or participate in field activities, including installation, troubleshooting, and constructability reviews.
  • Adhere to Interstates' professionalism, confidentiality, safety, and attendance expectations.


Field Technician - Entry / Intermediate Level Key Responsibilities:



  • Create deliverable sets based on direction from others by efficiently navigating systems and design tools.
  • Assist in field installation activities to gain handson experience and develop constructability knowledge.
  • Modify models, data, or drawing sets based on direction from project leaders.
  • Learn tool functionality through mentorship, research, and handson experience.
  • Assist with 3D scanning and Trimble operations as needed.
  • Support documentation, quality checks, and peer reviews.
  • Provide input for continuous improvement of tools and processes.


Qualifications



  • High school diploma or associate degree (A.A. or A.S.) from a technical or community college required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in virtual design, construction, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Foundational experience with virtual modeling software, construction documentation, or technical design tools.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fieldbased environment.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and adapt to project needs.


Field Designer - Advanced / Senior Level Key Responsibilities



  • Complete conceptual and detailed design packages using design software in coordination with project leaders.
  • Integrate design and construction methodologies to optimize project execution.
  • Recommend electrical and automation practices based on codes, best practices, and prior project experience.
  • Set project direction by documenting scope, deliverables, and schedules.
  • Assess project risks and opportunities and implement effective design and VDC strategies.
  • Troubleshoot complex design and installation issues in collaboration with project teams.
  • Collaborate directly with clients, contractors, and internal teams through onsite and virtual meetings.
  • Mentor and develop Field Technicians through feedback, delegation, and review of deliverables.
  • Maintain and contribute to design standards and best practices.
  • Review prefabrication and modeling impacts, including schedule and return on investment.
  • Own 3D scanning and Trimble operations as required.


Qualifications



  • Associate degree (A.A. or A.S.) in Engineering Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 4-10 years of experience in virtual design and construction, technical modeling, or a similar role, preferably within the electrical industry.
  • Advanced proficiency in virtual modeling software and BIM standards.
  • Strong understanding of construction documentation and field execution.
  • Proven ability to lead coordination efforts and mentor others.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and perform effectively in a fastpaced, onsite environment.


Travel Requirement
As part of the national construction team, this role involves being on-site at a wide range of locations across the country, with placements typically lasting 8 months or more.

Compensation: Compensation is based on experience and role level. Our salary ranges are determined by the experience and education required, and level of responsibility. The range posted for this role represents a range that Interstates, in good faith, believes it is willing to pay at the time of this posting. The pay is determined by job related skills, training, education, and experience.

Field Technician positions are typically hourly + benefits.
Field Designer positions may be salaried + benefits.
