The Program Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day administrative operations of Science Peer Learning Assistant programming at the Math and Science Learning Center, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of student academic support by leading the science Peer Learning Assistant team, communicating with science departments, and assisting with overall Learning Center logistics. This position will work in support of the Director's vision, in collaboration with Learning Center staff, and in coordination with the science departments as they offer academic support in the Center.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Coordinates daily operations of science Peer Learning Assistant (PLA) programming at the Math and Science Learning Center:
  • Assists with scheduling and confirming academic support sessions and offers logistical support for sessions taking place in the Center.
  • Mentors and leads the science Peer Learning Assistant team.
  • Oversees tracking of science Peer Learning Assistant and Teaching Assistant attendance, follows up with director and departments with issues.
  • Helps enforce procedures and develop program improvements as needed in the Center.
  • Fields inquiries from students, faculty, and staff and elevates to director as needed.
  • Opens or closes the center as scheduled.
  • Coordinates equipment and supplies relating to PLA services.
  • Maintains regular communication with (science) course coordinators, conveys information relating to Center programming, procedures, and hiring of student employees.
  • Updates academic schedules and ensures changes are communicated with the department and course instructors
  • Assists with hiring of student employees. Oversees and helps train student employees, ensures they are completing assigned tasks, follows up with additional training and communication as needed.
  • Collects bi-weekly timesheets of Peer Learning Assistants, verifies hours worked, answers questions and provides follow-up on payroll concerns.
  • Assists with planning of space assignments in the center, assists with creating schedules for science providers (TAs, Peer Learning Assistants), confirms all information relating to science sessions is accurate on MSLC website.
  • Responsible for scheduling, organizing, and providing logistic support for science study sessions and reviews.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:
  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. A total of one (1) year (12 months) demonstrated experience administering or leading a STEM student success program.

(Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • STEM degree preferred.
  • Experience working with STEM higher education programs preferred (i.e. learning assistants, peer-led team learning).
