Aon is hiring for an Underwriting Professional I.

Bankers Insurance Service (BIS) business group within Aon Affinity is a leading general underwriter that provides insurance coverage for residential and commercial mortgage lenders. Our products include fidelity bond, E&O, Professional Liability, Mortgage Impairment, D&O, Privacy/Cyber Liability, and Surety coverages tailored to mortgage lenders and other financial institutions.

Within stipulated underwriting authority limits, the Underwriting Professional is accountable for reviewing and evaluating applications for surety bonds to classify the applicant and determine the appropriate surety carrier for placement of the bonds.

This is a hybrid role working two to three days per week, at our Chicago, IL office location.

What the day will look like

  • Review and evaluate surety bond applications and related documents, including financial statements and other information needed to properly evaluate and classify the appropriate surety carrier for placement of the bonds.
  • Obtain all relevant information not included with the initial submission to ensure a thorough evaluation of the risk.
  • Review and evaluate financial statements and recommend appropriate actions to maintain bond coverage.
  • Liaise with multiple surety bond carriers to ensure all documentation for bond placement is secured and rates to be charged are adequate and accurate.
  • Prepare and review quotations to ensure accuracy prior to presentation to potential clients.
  • Communicate effectively with current and prospective bond clients to ensure bond issuance deadlines are met and client needs satisfied.
  • Maintain bond file documentation meticulously.
  • Developing and managing a book of business with goals for production, net revenue, and underwriting audit results.
  • Solicit new applications from past producers and clients
  • Complete a variety of underwriting projects at the direction of management.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Surety Bond Industry experience
  • P&C and Surplus Lines Licenses preferred, will be required to obtain within 6 months of hire date
  • Experience with MS Office suite products

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent 3-5 years of surety/insurance experience

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $70,000 to $75,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
