  • Portneuf Medical Center (PMC) is a nationally recognized healthcare leader with 205 beds, serving as the region's Level II Trauma Center and tertiary referral hospital, and is home to the Portneuf Heart and Vascular Institute, Portneuf Cancer Center, Portneuf Medical Group, and Portneuf Air Rescue. PMC has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, an adult intensive care unit, nationally recognized orthopedic services, a full suite of cardiac care, Center of Excellence recognized surgeons, imaging, primary and specialty care.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for pre-analytical specimen preparation and processing; embedding, microtomy, and maintaining the equipment under the direction of Histology/Pathology department leadership, Pathologist, or designee.
  • Perform specimen grossing of surgically removed tissue under the supervision of the Pathologist.
  • Performs specimen fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and IHC analysis within the scope of practice, training, and skills.
  • Adheres to laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing, analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Evaluates specimens and test requests for appropriateness.
  • Documents appropriate information into the laboratory information system.
  • Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students, or interns, including lectures and bench techniques.
  • Other duties may arise and be carried out as assigned to meet quality standards expected for patient care.
  • All duties performed will be within the guidelines set forth by regulatory and hospital guidelines to maintain, manage, and assure specimen integrity.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in histotechnology, laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution, OR degree in biology or chemistry with education/training equivalent.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Experience within a clinical or anatomic pathology department
  • Six months experience as Histotechnician
