THE POSITION

The Oil and Gas Industry is continuously changing, with the Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Oil and Gas at the forefront of this transformation. We are in search of a committed Oil and Gas Inspector to join our esteemed team, playing a pivotal role in our mission to protect Pennsylvania's environment. This position not only allows you to enhance your environmental career but also enables you to utilize your technical expertise to significantly impact the state's natural resources. By applying to become part of our organization, you will help ensure that our operations adhere to environmental standards, thereby preserving the stunning landscapes of Pennsylvania for generations to come.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Oil and Gas Inspector is responsible for overseeing monitoring and compliance activities within a designated geographic area, ensuring adherence to several key regulations, including the Coal and Gas Resource Coordination Act, the Oil and Gas Act, the Oil and Gas Conservation Law, the Clean Streams Law, and relevant chapters of the Environmental Quality Board's Rules and Regulations. You must follow departmental policies related to safety, including guidelines for protective gear and exposure control, while also assessing hazardous atmospheres that may arise from gas presence.

Field inspections are conducted throughout the various phases of oil and gas wells, including drilling, production, and plugging, to verify compliance with laws, check permit validity, and ensure proper drilling locations. Inspections may also involve investigating spills and gas releases, with necessary samples and data collected to confirm compliance. Documentation of findings is crucial, as inspection reports are filed, results entered into the eFacts system, and copies sent to operators, with follow-up actions taken as needed. Additionally, you will evaluate proposed school sites for potential hazards related to active or abandoned oil and gas wells.
