About the Role

SIM isseekingtoonboard aHead ofCLO,High Yield and Bank Loan Management. This individualwill haveultimateresponsibility for management of SIM'sCLO,HighYield andBankLoanteamandallrelatedclientportfolios.

Theteamcurrently consists of anexperienced, dedicated, and high-performinggroupofbelow-investment-grade creditanalystsand tradersthatsupport initial underwritingand portfolio construction,theongoing monitoring ofportfoliocreditsand other issuers,the development and maintenance ofstrongdealer relationships,andthe activesourcingof portfolioopportunities acrossboth high yield and bank loansthrough newissueand secondary market trading.

The team currently managesapproximately$2.4billionofconsolidatedexposure, consisting of:



  • SIM's inaugural CLO (Symetra 2025-1);
  • Below-investment-grade sleeves of theaffiliated general accountportfolios of Symetra Life Insurance Company andaffiliates;
  • ABank Loanmandate on behalf of SIM's ultimate parent company, SumitomoLife.



In addition tothe ongoing prudentmanagement of the existing high yield and bank loan portfolios, theexpansion of SIM's CLO management business is a critical priority.SIM hasprocureda substantialequitycapitalcommitmentto drivesuccessiveCLO issuance over the ensuing years, focusing on building scaleas well asa reputation for recurring and reliable investment results,and correspondingly,increasinglybroadinvestor recognitionand a wider investment basethat will compound futuregrowth and revenue.SIM's CLO management business is akey strategic initiative with enterprise-level support; it willbe built upon an established foundation with respect to human capital, technology,andin-force institutional knowledge and relationships. This endeavor will also be supported byharnessingsynergisticcapabilitiesfromSIM'sCLO tranche investing team,whereits$9bn+ AUM makes itasubstantial market participant with well-developed relationships and substantial productexpertise.

Finally,over time, SIM should have the potential opportunity to buildother third-party revenue channels throughthe High Yield and Bank Loanteam, including separately managed accounts("SMA").

This is an unusually attractive opportunity to lead ahighly experienced and sophisticated team withsubstantialcurrent AUM,significantexpansionopportunities,an established legal/compliance/technology infrastructure,and strong institutional sponsorship, all within the framework of aseasoned,scaledasset managerthat is owned by a stable,highly-ratedinsurance carrierwith many decades of operating history.

This is a hybrid work role based in Farmington Connecticut.

What you will do

Execute on SIM's strategic plan to grow its CLO management business by overseeing all aspects of CLO management and issuance.

This includes:



  • Work across all relevant SIM areas (high yield and bank loan team, CLO tranche investing team, insurance portfolio management team,operations team,legal and compliance team, business development team)to effectuate the business plan while maintainingthe highest level of collaboration, communication, and professionals
  • Select and work with all necessary external constituencies (chosen arrangers, warehouse providers, vendors,outside investors,dealers, ratings agencies, trustees, etc.), andrepresent SIMto such constituenciesprofessionally, responsively, ethically, and with the highest standard of care,at all times
  • Maximize long-termvalue for both the affiliated insurance companies as well as external clients by sourcing, underwriting, andacquiringpositions aligned with client objectives and utilizing fundamental credit analysis, disciplinedportfolio construction, and ongoing, opportunistic portfolio management.Enforce disciplinein the evaluation of riskand return by maintaining consistency inthe investment processesand ensuring thatsuch is applied continually toallrelated mandates.Cultivate strong client relationshipsthat engender trust with the team as well as with SIMmore broadly.
  • Provide superior oversight, recommendations, and decision-making with respect to cultivating maximum value fromhigher-risk or deteriorated credits.Provide commentary and/or recovery analysis on such creditsto satisfy client inquiries,other-than-temporary impairment ("OTTI") evaluationneedsor other requirements.
  • Support SIM's futureadditionalpotential efforts to commercialize its offerings(e.g.SMA)in the High Yield and Bank Loan spaceas dictated by business conditions,SIM/enterprisegoals, and opportunities.Workcollaboratively acrossother teamsatSIM to enhance breadth and quality of analysis, idea generation,and cooperationleading to enhanced collective success.

Who you are

  • 15-20+ yearsofoverall experience in an institutionalfixed-income oriented, front office rolefocused on research, trading, and/or portfolio management with respect to below-investment-grade exposure, with a focus on long-term, disciplined, and fundamental investmentstrategies.
  • BA. or B.S.degree infinance, business,or related field, or in a quantitative discipline such asMathematics, Statistics, or engineering.Advanceddegree isa plus.CFA designation.
  • Experiencemustincludesubstantialactive management ofbank loancollateral poolsfor CLOsas well as the relationships and experience necessary to successfully raise 3rdparty CLO equity prospectively.
  • Must possess a sound and demonstrable understanding of CLO vehicles, the CLO management business, and how to expand a best-in-class platform
  • Demonstrable and successfultrack recordmanaging CLOs,high yield, and bank loanstrategieswith solid performance and low defaults with well-establishedindustry relationships.
  • Leadership, talent development, and long-range planning experience andexpertiseworthy of a position overseeing an established, high-performingteam entrusted with the management of billions of dollars ofcurrentAUMand the execution of key expansion initiatives.
  • Experience developing,buildingandmaintaininginvestmentinfrastructure, processes and procedures that supportdesired portfolio management, trading, surveillance, and compliance needs for active high yield and bank loan portfolios.
  • A "get it done" work ethic that supports the completion of tasks within specifiedtimeframes, and the ability to adjust to shifting priorities as business conditionswarrant, understanding that the work requirements of the position will sometimes embed inflexible deadlines.


Preferred Experience:



  • Experience in an insurance company or insurance-owned asset manager, or in a portfolio management role managing insurance company portfolios.



  • Experience managing CLOs and experience managing both buy-and-maintain-as well astotal-return-oriented portfolios.

Compensation
Salary Range: Min $300,000 - Max $375,000 plus eligibility for annual bonus program and long-term incentives.
