Overview

The Principal Engineer plays a critical role in leading engineering projects, providing technical expertise, and managing teams to deliver high-quality solutions across various industries. This position involves overseeing engineering studies, project planning, and design work, while also engaging with clients to establish new projects and develop proposals.

The Principal Engineer is expected to demonstrate strong leadership, technical proficiency, and the ability to manage complex projects effectively.

The role requires proficiency in engineering software tools, database management, and the ability to analyze and interpret data to develop actionable insights. Additionally, the Principal Engineer must possess a deep understanding of engineering methodologies, terminologies, and techniques, along with the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities (Duties):

  1. Project Management:
    • Develop detailed project proposals, including scope of work, deliverables, schedules, and objectives.
    • Lead and manage engineering teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
    • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
  2. Technical Expertise:
    • Perform engineering studies and demonstrate a strong working knowledge of planning, design, and operational principles.
    • Utilize industry-standard software tools to conduct analyses, simulations, and assessments.
    • Prepare and review technical reports that outline methodologies, findings, recommendations, and observations.
  3. Client Engagement:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded.
    • Participate in marketing efforts to secure new projects and expand the client base.
    • Represent the organization at industry events, committees, and associations to network and identify opportunities.
  4. Leadership and Mentorship:
    • Serve as a team lead on complex projects or multiple smaller projects.
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering professional growth and development.
    • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
  5. Analysis and Problem-Solving:
    • Analyze data and results to identify trends, solve problems, and develop actionable conclusions.
    • Maintain a program of personal study to stay updated on industry advancements and improve technical skills.
  6. Administrative and Communication Skills:
    • Ensure effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders.
    • Utilize software tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook for documentation and reporting.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related field) or equivalent experience in the engineering field.
  • 15+ years of proven work experience in engineering operations, planning, or project management.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is required.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in mentoring and guiding teams.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools and database management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to client locations.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
