JOB DETAILS:

  • Location: San Jose, California
  • Onsite: This role requires the student to work full time (40 hours a week), onsite work structure throughout the duration of the co-op/intern term
  • Duration:
    • Summer/Fall Co-op: May 18, 2026 or June 22, 2026 - December 11, 2026

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

We are seeking highly motivated Thermal Engineering co-op to join our team. In this role:

  • We will introduce you to our newly developed AI tool for package-level and system-level thermal analysis of FPGA and custom ASIC chips. You'll explore its capabilities and help us push its boundaries.
  • We will involve you in validating our tool by comparing its results with commercial thermal analysis software across different projects. Your insights will help us improve speed, accuracy, and usability.
  • Your responsibility will include streamlining our workflow for full package characterization and automating report generation, making the process more efficient and user-friendly.
  • You will get to develop scripts that automate thermal simulations and post-processing tasks, including auto-generating reports that summarize key findings.
  • How thermal analysis is performed at the package and system level for advanced semiconductor devices.
  • How AI can be applied to physical design and simulation workflows.
  • How to evaluate and improve engineering tools through benchmarking and user feedback.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Currently enrolled in a US based University in a PhD degree program majoring in Mechanical Engineering with academic background in fluid mechanics and heat transfer fundamentals.
  • If you have knowledge / experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply -
    • Experience with thermal simulation tools such as Icepak, Flotherm, and AEDT.
    • Proficiency in Python scripting for automation and data processing.
    • Prior exposure to electronics cooling applications is a plus!
    • Familiarity with electronics packaging concepts is a plus!
