What to Expect

The Group Manager, Energy Transformers & Switchgear Supply Chain is responsible for the overall success of the Energy Storage Deployment Supply Chain team with the goal of meeting demand and supply needs of the company in a cost-effective manner and anticipating and mitigating risks as they emerge. This individual will lead, mentor and coordinate the activities of employees on the team which includes ensuring continuity of supply for production and service, ensuring we are executing on our supplier and commodity strategies, and ensuring that we are successfully ramping the supply base in a timely manner to meet our aggressive business growth targets. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished leader with a minimum 7 years supply chain experience who demonstrates strong, well-rounded business acumen. This individual must demonstrate the ability and desire to coach, develop and mentor people including junior hires and interns. This individual must also be willing to roll up their sleeves and get directly involved in projects and assignments as needed to get the job done.


What You'll Do
  • Lead Supply Chain Managers in setting the commodity strategy for Transformer, Switchgear, and Labor spend in the Energy Storage space including developing and maintaining relationships with strategic partners and identifying new suppliers as needed to support Tesla's business and technical requirements
  • Review, challenge and ultimately approve supplier selection decisions; coach and Supply Chain Managers to complete sourcing reviews for roll-up to senior management for approval
  • Coach, mentor and train Supply Chain Managers and Interns on building should cost models and evaluating current market conditions to prepare for cost negotiations with suppliers on submitted quotes; review sourcing proposals in detail to ensure Tesla is receiving best possible pricing
  • Support Supply Chain Managers on contract negotiations; includes providing guidance on best practices, reviewing strategies for resolving disputes as they arise and working with the Supply Chain Manager to prepare write-ups for leadership signature approval
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners in Finance, Design Engineering, Commercial & Sales, Supplier Industrialization Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure the best possible outcomes for Tesla in support of company goals including on new program launches, supplier resourcing projects, cost down efforts and on quality improvement projects
  • Communicate with leadership regarding business needs to secure resources needed to satisfy company objectives and support execution on the team's strategy
  • Hire, train and effectively onboard new employees to ensure they are familiar with Tesla tools, processes and standards required to effectively operate at a high level

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or Operations Management, or equivalent experience
  • At least 7 years of supply chain experience in a fast paced, highly fluid environment or other evidence of exceptional ability; experience in a manufacturing organization is strongly preferred (Experience in Energy Storage or Clean Energy Technology industries a plus)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability and desire to coach, develop and mentor a team of individuals to perform as a cohesive team to meet business objectives
  • Demonstrated, applied experience developing and managing a commodity including building cost models, leading contract negotiations and completing supplier resourcing projects
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross functional stakeholders
  • Experience supporting the launch of new product introductions
  • Superior analytical skills and the ability to use data and metrics to justify business decisions

    Expected Compensation
    $84,000 - $216,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
