Overview The primary function of the Senior Planning Analyst in Steam Long Range Planning is to conduct comprehensive studies and analyses associated with the environmental performance of the steam system in support of Steam Operations' clean energy goals, reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. The person performing this role will participate in the development of the Company's Integrated Long-Range Plan, Decarbonization Plan, Rate Cases, NY State GHG Accounting & Markets policy proceedings, annual Sustainability Reporting for the Company and Investor Relations reports, among others. The Senior Planning Analyst will also lead engagements with policymakers on building emissions policy strategy. This position is ideal for candidates with significant GHG emissions reporting framework experience and technical aptitude for understanding steam system operations and interrelated aspects of electric and gas system markets that impact steam production. This role will also support the development of Steam Decarbonization Benefit-Cost Analysis.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Manage and update sustainability plan for the steam system, including key milestones and potential future solutions and emerging technologies.
- Initiate, prepare, and communicate technical, financial and environmental analyses for potential improvements to the current and future operations of the Steam System.
- Prepare Greenhouse Gas (GHG) environmental reporting (annual carbon footprint, emission trends) and provide requested environmental data related to the steam system (Companys Sustainability Report, NYC Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report, PSC submission).
- Collaborate with various internal departments including but not limited to Strategic Planning, Engineering, and EH&S to ensure alignment of steams vision with the corporate vision.
- Prepare materials and testimony for regulatory proceedings, as well as documentation for the Vice President and senior leadership.
- Develop familiarity with new tools for assessing operational decarb strategy (ex. digital simulations). Participate in DEC GHG Accounting proceedings and assess impact to future steam decarbonization scenarios.
- Attend NSR meetings to gain knowledge of how environmental regulations impact steam operations.
- Provide emergency response support during steam or corporate emergencies, which may require availability for CERC, assignment to a field post, or work at a steam generating station outside of normal work hours.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant work experience. or
- Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, sustainability, environmental science, energy, climate change science, or other equivalent field of study and 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Master's Degree in engineering, sustainability, environmental science, energy, climate change science, or other equivalent field of study and 3 years of relevant work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
- Knowledge of basic financial concepts and energy markets/management, required.
- Demonstrated ability to cross-reference reports to identify and resolve discrepancies, determine root causes, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple departments, required.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and collaboratively with internal departments and external agencies, required.
- Proficient in computer applications MS Word, Excel, Power Point, required.
- Strong analytical skills, required.
- Experience with Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions Accounting Frameworks & IPCC Assessments, energy and emissions savings calculations, required.
- Familiarity with NY CLCPA and NYC Local Law 97, preferred.
- Minimum of five years experience in steam or gas operations, planning, or engineering, with a strong technical and analytical background, preferred.
- Familiarity with steam distribution systems and energy production systems (ex, electric-steam cogeneration), preferred.
- Experience with Power BI dashboard development and data analytics, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel to the company locations as needed.
