Position Summary

The Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives provides executive-level strategic support, consultation, and thought partnership to the President of Strategy and Business Ventures. This role is responsible for cross-functional coordination, partnership development, and budgetary oversight across multiple enterprise business units, including Medical Foundation operations, Marketing/Communications, Research Business Development, Government Affairs, Managed Care, Business Development, and the Center for International Medicine.

The Executive Director plays a critical role in identifying, framing, and analyzing complex enterprise-wide business issues; developing actionable recommendations; and leading high-impact strategic initiatives. The role requires strong executive presence, advanced analytical skills, and exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including the preparation of executive-level presentations and board materials. This position collaborates closely with senior leaders across City of Hope and frequently engages with external executives and partners to advance organizational strategy.

As a successful candidate, you will:
  • Oversee and facilitate the Office of the President of Strategy and Business Ventures, including cross-functional coordination and budgetary management of all reporting business units

  • Lead and manage strategic planning initiatives as assigned by the President, including business case development, ROI analysis, and risk mitigation

  • Monitor priorities, assignments, and deliverables to ensure timely execution of strategic initiatives

  • Serve as an executive-level liaison with external companies and partners in support of City of Hope's strategic objectives

  • Manage Strategic Priority Initiatives (SPIs), including tracking, reporting, and executive updates

  • Lead the development of board and committee materials, including executive presentations and reports

  • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure alignment with enterprise initiatives and standards, including DE&I priorities

  • Act as the primary communication liaison between the President, internal leaders, and external stakeholders, ensuring timely and effective information flow

  • Develop executive-level content for external conferences, meetings, and presentations

  • Manage external consultants and contractors, including scope of work development, contract negotiation, performance oversight, and cost management

  • Research, analyze, and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data to inform strategic decisions

  • Prepare and present reports with analysis, conclusions, recommendations, and action plans to executive leadership and boards

  • Lead special projects and enterprise-wide strategic programs, defining objectives, scope, timelines, resources, and success metrics

  • Monitor and communicate project progress across all organizational levels and stakeholders

  • Design and implement systems, processes, and communications that enable senior leadership to advance City of Hope's mission and strategic priorities

  • Uphold City of Hope policies, compliance standards, confidentiality requirements, and Code of Conduct

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include: Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Economics, Health Care Administration, Operations Research, Public Health Administration, or a related field

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in healthcare administration, healthcare consulting, or a related field, preferably within a highly complex, matrixed organization such as an academic medical center, teaching hospital, or research university

Preferred Education
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Public Health, or Juris Doctor (J.D.)

Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, collaboration, and partnership

  • Strong executive-level analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Proven experience in project management, budget oversight, and ROI analysis

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive and board-level presentations

  • Ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into actionable recommendations

  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all organizational levels

  • Results-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple complex priorities simultaneously
