Description

Markon is seeking an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer / Policy SME to support a fast-paced, mission-critical environment focused on AI governance, policy, and implementation. This position will support the DNI Chief Data Officer and Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer by shaping AI governance policy grounded in real-world technical experience. This role will combine hands-on AI engineering expertise with the ability to translate technical insights into actionable policy, guidance, and decision support for senior stakeholders across the Intelligence Community.



Responsibilities

    Support AI governance and policy development for current and emerging AI technologies in collaboration with the ODNI CDO and CAIO.
  • Translate technical AI concepts, trends, and risks into clear policy, governance documents, and executive-level products.
  • Provide hands-on AI engineering support, including prototyping, model training, inference, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Analyze AI technology trends and create decision-support products to inform leadership and governance bodies.
  • Collaborate with IC partners, including non-DoD elements, to coordinate AI policy, governance, and information sharing.
  • Advise on ethical, legal, and policy implications of AI and emerging technologies.
  • Evaluate AI use cases, including NLP, Large Language Models (LLMs), Generative AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and Agentic AI.
  • Recommend forward-leaning improvements to align governance frameworks with the customer's AI vision.
  • Stay current with advances in AI technologies, architectures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and other AI stakeholders to align policy with implementation realities.


Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph is required.
  • Bachelor's degree plus 10+ years of related experience, OR Master's degree plus 7+ years, OR PhD or JD plus 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience developing AI policy and governance documentation for existing and emerging AI technologies.
  • Minimum of 5 years collaborating with Intelligence Community partners, including non-DoD IC organizations.
  • Expertise in at least two of the following areas:
    • AI development
    • AI architecture
    • AI engineering
    • AI policy
    • AI ethics and law
    • Emerging technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to translate highly technical concepts into policy, governance, and executive-level products.
  • Experience collaborating closely with data scientists and AI practitioners.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Python, R, SQL, Jupyter, and MLOps practices.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML cloud services, such as AWS SageMaker, Amazon Q, Azure ML Studio, Copilot Studio, Google BigQuery, or Oracle ML.
  • Experience designing, developing, optimizing, and deploying AI/ML models.
  • Experience leveraging cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, Oracle, Google).


Salary Range

USD $200,000.00 - USD $225,000.00 /Yr.

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
