Job Summary

Under general supervision, the digital communications specialist (DCS) will actively collaborate with CLTC directors, staff and other partners to design, produce and promote CLTC research and activities. The DCS will create novel content for distribution across a variety of platforms such as social media, websites, digital newsletters, CLTC building displays and other printed materials. Topics and activities will focus on energy-efficient lighting, daylighting, building controls and other electric building systems research spanning residential, commercial, industrial and institutional use. The DCS will produce photography, develop graphics, create videos, author associated text for each piece of content, and deliver other engaging materials that promote CLTC.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Experience designing printed and electronic layouts that effectively integrate graphics and text.
  • Experience using a computer to produce graphics, desktop publishing assignments and social media posts.
  • Experience with related computer programs and apps such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, LinkedIn, Instagram, Canva, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience using writing, proofreading and editing skills to write and edit clear copy for a diverse audience.
  • Continuing education or professional development in graphic design, mixed media, digital communications or related discipline.
  • Organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload to maintain composure under heavy workload, conflicting priorities and other demands to meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop creative solutions to general problems, attempt unfamiliar projects or assignments, and respond with flexibility to requests for assistance.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to exercise diplomacy when dealing with others and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, digital media, graphic design or related field.
  • Knowledge of and ability to successfully utilize website building tools such as Joomla or Site Farm.

  • 40% - Develop general outreach displays, materials and supporting activities
  • 60% - Develop outreach and education materials for sponsored research projects

Department Overview

The California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), Design Program, College of Letters and Science, is a UC research center with a mission to accelerate the development, commercialization and adoption of electric building systems and controls technology that improves energy efficiency, decarbonization, grid resiliency, and community wellbeing. CLTC's goals are accomplished through technology development, demonstration, education and public outreach conducted through collaborations and partnerships at the local, state, federal and global level. CLTC's partners include manufacturers, utilities, researchers, the building trades, educators, regulators and other public and private stakeholders.
