Perform courier and maintenance duties in support of all assigned sites.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1.Transports interoffice mail between Administration and all sites.

  • Mail reaches destinations in a timely manner.
  • Practices safe driving techniques.
  • Takes Milford Regional vehicle for maintenance when due.
  • Responds promptly to beeper and cell phone calls from Administration.
  • Drives route to minimize time and miles.
  • Makes multiple stops at certain locations, as needed.
  • Able to change route as needed to pick up STATS.

2. Perform routine maintenance as requested.

  • Change light bulbs, plunge toilets, hang pictures, assemble furniture, etc.
  • Purchase supplies necessary to complete tasks.
  • Construct shelving.

3. Participate with office relocations.

  • Load boxes/furniture on and off truck.
  • Set up new office space.

4. Assists MIS department to run cables.

  • As requested assists MIS personnel run cables inside offices.

1.High School or equivalent.

2. Valid driver's license. Good driving record.

1. Courier experience preferred

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
This position requires frequent sitting, bending, reaching, and repetitive movements. Position requires occasional standing, pushing, pulling, and lifting of 10 lbs or less. Precise motor skills, hearing, and vision are required.

Addendum for Milford Regional Medical Center

Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Storeroom Supervisor, is responsible for driving hospital vehicles on assigned courier runs.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Maintains scheduled vehicle maintenance

  • a) Responsible for weekly visual checks of vehicle, tires, body, and reports any damages immediately.
  • b) Schedules vehicle service, i.e. oil changes, tune ups, tire issues, etc. in conjunction with Purchasing Department.

2. Drives the hospital vehicle on assigned runs to make deliveries and pickups at designated locations which may include specimens, confidential patient records, incoming/outgoing hospital mail, food, and clean/soiled linen.

  • a) Maintains a good driving record.
  • b) Stays on schedule due to sensitive time constraints when handling specimens, i.e. Cancer Center which may include STAT runs.
  • c) Handles biohazard materials as required for off sites.

3. Purchase miscellaneous supplies from local retail stores as required by Purchasing office; Performs daily bank transactions at local bank for hospital and designated off sites.

  • a) Flexibility is required to perform last minute purchase requests from local vendors.
  • b) Realize the importance with handling money and completing task in timely manner and report any issues immediately to supervisor.
  • c) Maintains a professional image at all times while representing hospital during daily tasks.

Consistent standing required. Frequent pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and repetitive movements. Precise vision and hearing required. Occasional sitting, climbing, working outdoors, under extreme temperatures, at heights required. Constant lifting, and carrying of up to 20 lbs. Frequent lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing of up to 50 lbs. Occasional lifting, of up to or over 100 lbs.
