The Maryland Department of Transportation, The Secretary's Office (MDOT TSO), is seeking a Cybersecurity Assistant Director (IT Assistant Director II). This is the supervisory or managerial level of work directing and coordinating two or more areas of information technology activity for an agency or other organization. These work areas include systems analysis and programming, technical support, data base management, quality assurance, networks, information services, technical staff support or computer operations. The employee will directly supervise information technology staff or manage staff through subordinate supervisors or managers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage and review the work of Technical Specialists in the Office of IT Security
  • Attend and serve on the MDOT Security Working Group committee
  • Assign projects and tasks to the staff to meet the security needs of customers
  • Participate and make decisions regarding security projects, troubleshooting, security policies, security operations, access control, employee development and enrichment, etc.
  • Responsible for the MDOT Security Awareness Program
  • Guiding, directing, and advising the MDOT modes on projects involving IT security requirement and strategies
  • Facilitate the standards and procedures for the Office of IT Security
  • Responsible for being on-call for off-hours problems

The current vacancy exists at MDOT TSO in the Office of Transportation Technology Services (OTTS), which is located in Hanover, MD (Anne Arundel County).

This position may allow a hybrid work schedule, including telework and required on-site work hours.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Six (6) years of management or supervisory experience in information technology in at least two of the following areas: planning, systems analysis, computer programming or operations.

The ideal candidate will possess:

Possession of one or more security certifications such as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification or similar.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute graduate education in computer science or in directly related fields on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required experience.

2.Applicants may substitute additional management or supervisory experience as defined above at the rate of six months of experience for one year of education for the required college education.

3. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
