Job Summary:

Under general supervision and direction, this position is responsible for overseeing contracted Cleaning/Custodial, Non-Hazardous Solid Waste, and Pest Control services on the Evanston and Chicago campuses. The role will ensure that services are provided in accordance with University standards and contractual obligations. Expected to stay current on industry developments and regulatory changes, and to identify opportunities for process improvements, updated policies or procedures. Will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the programs and service contracts. The role will support invoicing, bidding, and contract renewal processes. The role will respond to customer inquiries and requests for service. The position is 100% on-site, predominantly in Evanston but with a routine presence on both campuses.

Specific Responsibilities:

Non-Hazardous Solid Waste Program Oversight

  • Manages and coordinates the University's solid waste stream programs including the collection, handling, and processing of waste, recycling, electronics recycling, and composting.
  • Monitors vendors' provision of services to ensure compliance with standards of performance and contractual obligations.
  • Requests changes in schedules, pick-ups, and other contracted services in response to customer or campus needs.
  • Collaborates with and supports Sustainability initiatives, events, and programs related to this functional area.
  • Responds to service issues and customer concerns, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Prepares reports on waste diversion and disposal, as well as other program activities.
  • Oversees University-owned equipment, including compactor maintenance and replacement.
  • Maintains the inventory of bins for the collection of trash, recycling, composting, etc, and distribution of bins to campus community.

Pest Control Oversite

  • Monitors the vendor's provision of the contracted services to ensure compliance with the standards of performance.
  • Reviews vendor's inspection and field reports and assists in coordination of necessary support or repairs by other Facilities trades shops.
  • Serves as liaison between University departments and vendor as needed.
  • Requests changes in schedules, applications, or other services in response to customer needs

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of educational training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience managing building services functions (diversified custodial, environmental waste, and /or recycling) in a university, research, or medical school setting.
  • Working knowledge of the standards, industry best practices, and procedures of cleaning, recycling, and waste disposal programs.
  • Ability to work various hours as required to support the program.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license recognized by the State of Illinois.
  • Must provide own transportation, purchase a University parking permit, and be willing to travel between multiple facilities on two separate campuses.

Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)

  • Bachelors or Associates degree in a Facilities-related field.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $64,000-$70,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
