Job Summary

The Wastewater/Environmental Manager will be state-certified in wastewater operations and responsible for organizing and directing the operations and environmental activities within the wastewater plant as well as the overall plant environment. Additionally, will be responsible for performing tests and maintenance to ensure the proper operation of all equipment related to wastewater and air quality, including all required documentation.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Wastewater management responsibilities to include:

  • Proper operation of plant skimmer and DAF systems.
  • Chemical inventory and addition throughout wastewater treatment/odor control processes.
  • Control flows throughout wastewater treatment processes.
  • Monitor MBBRs.
  • Perform daily monitoring reporting requirements.
  • Conduct wastewater testing and monitoring as needed.
  • Service and lube the pumps and gear boxes as needed.
  • Monitor aerators and mixers on a regular basis.
  • Ensure proper operation of the disinfection system.
  • Perform fats and oil lab testing.
  • In conjunction with Corporate Environmental team, produce all required reporting per state specifications.
  • Responsible for all activities and the overall operation/efficiency of the Wastewater Facility.
  • Directly or indirectly supervise the wastewater operators.
  • Develop objectives to meet regulatory requirement efficiencies and productivity via continuous quality improvement and strategic planning.
  • Accountable for the productivity and efficiency of system operations and achieving state, federal and local standards for water and wastewater regulatory requirements.

Environmental management responsibilities to include:

  • Obtaining & maintaining proper documentation for:
    • Air permits
    • Wastewater permits
    • Storm water permits and pollution (SWPP)
    • Spill prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC)
    • WPCRA (SARA) Compliance & Reporting
    • Solid & Hazardous Waste Management
    • Boiler permits
    • Business and operating licenses

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 6 months or more of industry work experience in environmental or related field.
  • Minimum of 1+ year of management or supervisory experience.
  • Must possess the required state-issued wastewater certifications, OR be able to obtain these within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed in Michigan as wastewater operator for discharge to river/waterways.
  • Experience in rendering facility or production environment.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; good math skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and spreadsheet management.
