This position is responsible for all duties associated with and related to the safe, efficient and cost-effective tapping and stopping of natural gas pipelines and crane operations. Responsible for performing all duties such as those described below and all other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

The following list is not intended to be all inclusive of duties and responsibilities as needed and required.

  • Tapping and stopping of all gas lines utilizing Mueller and TDW style equipment and fittings.

  • Operates a mobile crane and other heavy equipment, including articulating boom cranes and fixed cab cranes.

  • Pre-inspecting proposed work locations and/or installations

  • Performing work assignments in a manner which properly safeguards the public, employees and property of others and Company.

  • Manage multiple work assignments across various Operations Centers and various organizations within NGBU.

  • Assigning work, inspecting, instructing, and directing employees in this and lower job classifications in safety and on standard work practices and procedures.

  • Conducting the work and directing the operation of crane and/or tapping equipment in such a manner that employees and the public are properly safeguarded at all times.

  • Support the Fabrication team as needed. i.e. Material receiving and delivery, material traceability verification, hydro testing, etc.

  • This position is required to perform other similar or less skilled job-related duties, as assigned.

  • Must show good judgment in operating cranes in a safe manner when operating close to overhead wires and obstructions.

  • Must acquire a good working knowledge of hazardous conditions while operating cranes to protect personnel on the job site from injury.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  • Computer skills working in a Windows environment

  • Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills and safety awareness

  • Must have sufficient mechanical ability and experience to understand the basic principles used in hoisting equipment.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess and maintain or obtain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class A) within 1 year of hire

  • Must possess and maintain or obtain forklift certification within 6 months of hire

  • Previous hot tapping experience

  • Previous crane experience or certification or the ability to obtain the applicable crane certifications for the position

  • Knowledge and experience using Maximo

Physical Requirements

  • Must show good judgement in operating cranes in a safe manner when operating close to overhead wires and obstructions

  • Must work outdoors in adverse weather conditions

  • Lifting up to 75 lbs

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required licenses including a Class A CDL and all required crane certifications.

  • Frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, stooping, crawling, standing, digging, climbing

  • Works on uneven terrain, many times with heavy vegetation

  • Manual dexterity (hand/eye coordination)

  • Keen eyesight

  • Good hearing

  • Good sense of smell

  • Comes in frequent contact with insects and animals

  • Ability to use breathing apparatus when performing tapping/stopping operations, as required

Other Requirements

  • Weekend and evening work as required. Subject to overtime and must be available for call-out and emergency response. Some rotating shifts.
