The Broward County Transportation Department (BCT), a public transportation agency under the Broward County Board of Commissioners based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers fixed-route, paratransit, community shuttle, and micro transit services within Broward County, as well as certain services to the neighboring counties. In addition, BCT will implement other modes of transit to become a multimodal agency with commuter rail, light rail, bus rapid transit and high-frequency bus service to our transit network.

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Superintendent of Transportation.
General Description

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Transit garage and coach system. Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college from an accredited college or university or technical trade school.

Requires four (4) years in transit maintenance with supervisory experience or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment. May require valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger and Airbrake Endorsements (with No Restrictions) based on area of assignment.

SCOPE OF WORK

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Assist with the day-to-day operation of the garages as needed; monitors and directs subordinate staff in the management of road calls, attendance, overtime, parts and supply needs, repairs on buses, facility issues, safety concerns and any other issues that come up on a daily basis on the service line.

Creates and administers various service and commodity contracts for the agency to include contract compliance, purchase order management, threshold management, and authorizing invoices for payment; approves P-card purchases of subordinates.

Attends various meetings (staff, supervisors, component manufacturers, bus manufacturer, safety, pre-bids for projects, computer software, vendors, other county agencies, FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation), and FTA (Federal Transit Administration).

Writes various reports daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually, and ad-hoc; analyzes different reports to gather data to forecast future repairs, parts and labor needs, and fleet composition; assists in writing technical specifications for new buses and for shop equipment.

Manages the Training section to include the Training staff, development of curriculum, conducting needs assessments, coordinating with vendors/manufacturers to provide specialized training, and evaluation of new hires for all positions during their probationary period.

Manages the Fare-box section to include the maintenance staff, PM program compliance, parts and material procurement and inventory, and staffing levels and schedules.

Conducts monthly shop inspection and reports findings to shop Superintendent and coordinates with Facilities for resolution of any deficiencies/issues.

Reviews the shop work load and debriefs supervisor for amount of work completed and concerns he/she may have; meets with maintenance, Facilities, and Materials Management staff as needed to resolve issues.

Coordinates with Risk Management Division and Safety/Security Division for periodic shop inspections, safety/security concerns, and compliance with related internal and external policies and procedures. Performance management, Training, Discipline, Recruitment
