2026 Summer Intern - Public Affairs & Access: Science Communications (Corporate Communications)

Department Summary

Public Affairs & Access is a multi-disciplinary organization that includes Access Solutions & Patient Support; Channel & Contract Management; Corporate Communications; External Affairs; Patient Strategy; Policy, Evidence, & Access Strategy; and Strategic Business Operations. Our mission is to drive positive change in the healthcare system so that every patient can access our science. We lead the development of meaningful partnerships, forward-looking pricing, contracting and distribution strategies, and proactive policy solutions that advance a more equitable and hopeful future for all of those who need our therapies.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, On-site.

The Opportunity

Science Communications is seeking a summer intern to support our external communications work for Genentech's research and early development organization. The intern will help our work in highlighting scientific breakthroughs with novel approaches and showcasing our talented scientists and researchers to elevate Genentech's reputation as the best place to conduct cutting-edge science. Examples of responsibilities may include:

  • Support the development and implementation of Genentech's Research and Early Development (gRED) external communications plan

  • Support the execution of new and existing communications initiatives (Behind the Science gene.com editorials, social media campaigns, Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar Podcast, etc.)

  • Coordinate with Genentech Corporate and Internal Communications teams to develop stories about gRED science and milestones

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree (must be currently enrolled in a degree program at a university or are within 2-years of graduation from their last degree)

Required Majors: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Science

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected hourly rate for this position based on the primary location for this position of South San Francisco, CA is $26/hr - $31/hr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, level, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
