Responsibilities

The Senior Designer is recognized as being capable of performing difficult and technically challenging work which may be assigned to them within their engineering specialty. May oversee portions of a project and may be assigned the project leader responsibility on projects. Senior Designer also actively participates in obtaining work for the firm.

Reports to a Group Leader but takes direction from Engineers or Project Manager with minimal supervision. Perform complex design duties under the direction of the Engineer of record. May not change the scope of work or deviate from any part of the contractual document without Project Manager's approval. Coordinate work of staff within the project.

The Senior Designer is responsible for developing and maintaining the satisfaction of existing clients

Using prescribed methods, performs specific and daily assignments of a Senior Designer. Applies standard practices and techniques in situations, adjusts and gathers data, and follows operations through a series of related steps or processes. Performs a variety of technical tasks, including:

    • Proficient use of computer spreadsheets and design programs for engineering analysis and equipment
    • Train staff in use of computer spreadsheets and design
    • Participate in preparing proposals and client presentations.
    • Initiate additional service requests and turn over to Project Manager for submittal to
    • Calculate costs and time schedules for proposed
    • Organize and maintain project
    • Assigned to a project team and makes major design
    • Coordinate clearance requirements with other design
    • Develop design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with project team to produce construction
    • Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code
    • Develop details as required for a specific
    • Edit master specification sections to be project
    • Develop control sequences for temperature control
    • Review drawings for compliance with company and industry standards and
    • Prepare engineering opinion of probable cost for mechanical or electrical systems and review construction manager/contractor cost
    • Attend construction progress meetings to solve non-routine technical issues and produce reports.
    • Review addendums, proposal requests and change
    • Review submittal and RFI's.
    • Produce final punch
    • May serve as a field engineer during
    • Maintain liaison with the client after project
    • Lead the development and assist with maintaining company design and production standards.
    • In role of project leader, coordinate staff activities and maintain responsibility for project budget, staffing, schedule, and
    • Assign duties and schedules to team members, responsible for all phases of a
    • Actively participate in technical presentations to both in-house staff and educational opportunities outside of the office.
    • Participate in technical and professional societies.
    • Other duties as necessary and


Qualifications

  • Recommended: 9 or more years of demonstrated design (2 years if BSEE)
  • Associate Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Technology from an accredited technical college

Or

  • Recommended: 15 or more years professional experience.
  • Diploma from a Drafting/ CAD school
  • Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer aided drafting
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical system design
  • Understanding and knowledge of applicable design code
  • Must be able to communicate with a variety of individuals; must be able to follow verbal and written instructions/directions and respond to inquiries
  • Must be able to travel to work- sites as needed or required
  • Must be able to operate a computer

Physical Demands: This position requires sitting for extensive periods of time. Moreover, the nature of the tasks place high demand for strong visual acuity.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Professional registration as a licensed Electrical Engineer preferred; PE registration in the State of California preferred.
  • Valid CA drivers' license required.
  • LEED Accredited Professional certification a plus

The pay range for this California position is $44.71- $61.06 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162.
