This position has responsibilities to maintain, troubleshoot and repair a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment in a food processing environment. This position requires proficiency in multiple skill clusters, such as electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, fabrication and manufacturing processes. This person will perform medium to high-level machine systems troubleshooting and repair and provide technical support for all phases of the operation. This work will be of average to considerable difficulty in the accomplishment of a variety of mechanical maintenance actions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Receives work order/request, reviews to determine tool, equipment, time, parts and supplies requirements, and meets schedules.
  • When responding to crisis calls will always arrive at the scene with basic tools and equipment necessary to perform work.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, etc.
  • Maintains various activity records and logs.
  • Observe equipment or machinery while in operation to detect malfunctions.
  • Disassemble mechanical equipment; identify faulty/worn parts, replace, reassemble, and test.
  • Test major subsystems or components to localize problem using specialized equipment.
  • Fabricate replacement parts which may require welding, cutting, or sheet metal work.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on various mechanical systems and equipment. Install new equipment/appliances including running any electrical, water, gas, or drain lines required.
  • Performs preventive and predictive maintenance schedules on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, exhaust fans, blowers and electrical controls.
  • Responsibilities include installing, trouble shooting, and maintaining, mechanical equipment, piping systems, electrical controls/components in accordance with manufacturer's specification, local regulations and Triumph safety policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: HS Diploma; associate technical maintenance or vocational school degree a plus.

Experience: At least 2+ years in industrial mechanical maintenance preferably in a food manufacturing.

Communication Skills: Must be able to read and write fluently in English. Must be able to understand technical and training manuals written in English. Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.

Special Skills: Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift or scissors lifts. Must be able to interpret basic machine electrical schematics. Ability to read blueprint drawings. Working knowledge and skills in operating a variety of small hand tools and devices used in general mechanical maintenance operations. Displays sound judgment, organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision. Other Requirements: Requires physical strength and agility necessary to perform lifting of 50# or more. Must be dependable and have an excellent attendance record.

Required Skills: Candidates must have the ability to learn and perform the following:

  • Ability to fill out paperwork including but not limited to work orders, inventory and preventive maintenance forms.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot equipment and components.
  • Select and properly use lubrication in maintenance of equipment.
  • Apply sealants and fillers.
  • Basic knowledge of workplace safety including PPE use and reaction to emergencies and accidents.
  • Identify and safely use hand and power tools associated with the trade.
  • Understanding of blueprint basics.
  • Ability to apply OSHA-mandated lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ability to install, repair, replace and maintain gaskets, seals, packings, o-rings, belt drives, bearings and couplings.
  • Ability to select and use various types of chemical cleaners and strippers.
  • Ability to maintain and repair drain, waste and vent (DWV) systems.
  • Ability to maintain and repair various types of valves.
  • Ability to install drywall.
  • Ability to finish and repair drywall.
  • Ability to maintain and repair plumbing fixtures, valves and faucets.
  • Ability to use techniques in oxyfuel cutting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair AC and DC motors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and test grounding systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair and replace various types of compressors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair and replace various types of heat pumps.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair and replace components of pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electric generators and batteries used in standby and emergency systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair cooling systems.
  • Ability to install, maintain and repair various control valves, actuators and positioners.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic systems including preventive maintenance, inspection and reading diagrams.
  • Ability to install, maintain and repair water supply piping.
  • Able to troubleshoot and replace voltage regulators
  • Able to troubleshoot reduced voltage starters, auto transformer, resister, reversing starters, electrical systems in hazardous locations, and variable frequency drives
  • Able to inspect and maintain variable frequency drives
  • Able to install, troubleshoot, maintain and repair all types of electrical equipment and systems up to 600 volts
Qualifications / Physical Abilities
  • Previous Mechanicalexperience is required.
  • Experience in equipment maintenance, electrical and welding.
  • Experience with 3 phase motors
  • Experience with AC/DC circuits.
  • Experience with Pneumatics and Hydraulics
  • Must be willing to help teach & train other mechanics
  • Must have good work ethics
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Ability to lift or move 50 - 100 pounds.
  • Able to work up to12 hours @ day
  • Be able to bend, twist and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to withstand wet; humid, cold, and hot environments
