Position Summary:

Reporting to TEN's Director, Project Development (or assignee), the Project Development Manager is accountable for leading project development activities and assisting in developing targeted sales strategies for MUSH market and federal customers in the Mid Atlantic region. This position is instrumental to securing contracts and ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction, company profitability and risk management. The primary responsibilities of the Project Development Manager include supporting business growth by fostering relationships with customers and vendors, leading the technical development of projects and proposals, managing all aspects of the development and execution of contracts, and supporting the TEN Construction team during project implementation. The Project Development Manager will perform the duties needed to accomplish these responsibilities for self-generated opportunities as well as opportunities generated by others including TEN's Business Development teams. Individuals in this role have knowledge of energy project delivery and methodology, and represent TEN as source matter experts, The successful candidate will work remotely and travel to customer sites across the Mid Atlantic from a home-based office.



Responsibilities:



  • Develop and execute customer capture strategies and build business relationships with target customers by effectively communicating the full scope of technical solutions, services, and TEN differentiators.
  • Lead the company response to assigned energy project procurements, in coordination with and with the support of TEN's Proposal Manager, leadership team, and TEN's engineering team.
  • Create positive relationships with customers and vendors, and maintain an active role in industry events to foster new project opportunities.
  • Promote business growth by uncovering customer drivers and presenting creative and compelling solutions focused on building systems, alternative and renewable energy technologies, and alternative funding and financing methodologies.
  • Develop and deliver compelling proposals and oral presentations focused on customer buying criteria, TEN's value proposition and competitive differentiators.
  • Plan, direct and monitor all aspects of pre-contract project development.
  • Coordinate, document, and communicate project development activities with engineering, construction, finance and external contractors
  • Work with team to develop project scopes, costs, and savings and maintain responsibility for all pricing/financial reviews and approvals necessary.
  • Maintain accountability for project development schedule and cost management.
  • Lead customer contract negotiation and related compliance in collaboration with TEN's management and legal team and align with TEN's approval processes.
  • Maintain proactive and consistent contact with customers during and post-construction to ensure customer satisfaction, ensure company profitability and manage risk from the project. Where possible, identify opportunities for related contract modifications.
  • Represent TEN as a market ambassador at industry related events, conferences, and meetings.
  • Support the larger TEN organization with expertise in assigned areas of specialty.
  • Maintain TEN qualifications under industry and or jurisdiction specific ESCO qualification processes.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Travel, as required.



Education and Experience Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, finance, or a related field
  • Ten (10) years professional experience and five (5) years relevant experience

    • Including 3 years of technical sales/development experience preferred

  • Deep understanding of the Energy Services business; emphasizing Performance Contracting and Energy as a Service contracting approaches.
  • Intimate knowledge of relevant state and federal ESCO contractor compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of engineering, construction and financing practices related to ESCO projects.
  • Ability to build relationships and uncover new business opportunities.
  • Ability to identify project viability; technically and financially.
  • Ability to understand and communicate diverse financial models.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with and lead technical teams through the project development and contract negotiation process.

Position Scope

In addition to daily deliverables, outputs and reporting, also considers and recommends longer term best practices to improve processes based on experience. Has well established capabilities, acts as a resource to less experienced staff on complex issues.
