We're seeking a Manager, Transportation in Atlanta in Public Sector to help us take vision to value and create lasting impact.

SUMMARY

North Highland is seeking an experienced Manager to lead critical work streams and projects within our Transportation practice. This role requires a seasoned consulting professional with deep transportation industry expertise who can independently manage complex project deliverables, interface directly with clients, and drive measurable business outcomes. The ideal candidate brings both consulting acumen and transportation sector knowledge, enabling them to serve as a trusted advisor to clients while leading high-performing project teams.

YOU WILL:

Project & Work Stream Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex work streams within larger transportation engagements
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery that meets or exceeds client expectations
  • Develop detailed project plans, work breakdown structures, and resource allocation strategies
  • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, escalating issues appropriately
  • Drive project governance, including status reporting, stakeholder communications, and change management

Client Interface & Relationship Management

  • Serve as primary day-to-day client contact for assigned work streams and projects
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with client stakeholders at director and VP levels
  • Facilitate client workshops, steering committees, and executive presentations
  • Translate complex technical concepts into actionable business recommendations
  • Identify opportunities for scope expansion and additional client value creation
  • Manage client expectations and navigate challenging conversations with professionalism

Transportation Industry Expertise

  • Apply deep knowledge of transportation industry trends, challenges, and best practices
  • Provide subject matter expertise in areas such as operations optimization, digital transformation, regulatory compliance, safety management, or supply chain excellence
  • Leverage industry experience to anticipate client needs and propose innovative solutions
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and methodologies impacting the transportation sector
  • Contribute to thought leadership and business development initiatives

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop teams of consultants and senior consultants
  • Provide clear direction, constructive feedback, and career development guidance
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support team members' professional growth
  • Model North Highland's values and consulting excellence standards

Delivery Excellence

  • Ensure quality and consistency of all project deliverables
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies and consulting frameworks
  • Drive data-driven decision-making and analytical rigor
  • Manage project financials, including budget tracking, forecasting, and utilization
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of delivery methodologies and tools

IDEALLY, WE'D LIKE:

Experience

  • 5-8 years of professional experience, with a strong preference for candidates currently working in management consulting
  • Demonstrated transportation industry experience (e.g., freight, logistics, public transit, aviation, rail, maritime, or fleet management)
  • Proven track record of successfully leading consulting projects or work streams from initiation through delivery
  • Direct client-facing experience managing stakeholder relationships and delivering presentations to senior leadership

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., PMP, Lean Six Sigma, supply chain certifications) are a plus

Skills & Competencies

  • Project Management: Strong ability to plan, execute, and control complex projects with multiple dependencies
  • Client Management: Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and credibility quickly
  • Transportation Acumen: Deep understanding of transportation industry operations, challenges, and regulatory environment
  • Analytical Thinking: Structured problem-solving approach with strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
  • Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level presentation abilities
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments with changing priorities
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of consulting economics, including utilization, profitability, and scope management
