Position Summary The UNM College of Education and Human Sciences, comprised of five academic departments, is a future-oriented, dynamic professional school organized to reflect the following values: Advocacy, Building Professional Identities, Collaboration, Building Strong School/University Partnerships, Interdisciplinary Inquiry/Scholarship, and Teaching and Learning. The TEELP Department is the largest in the College with the uniqueness of having teacher education and educational leadership faculty addressing Pre-K-12 and higher education needs together as an academic unit. The Department has both undergraduate and graduate programs. This position will work primarily in preservice teacher preparation in an educational landscape shaped by the Yazzie and Martinez lawsuits and New Mexico's 'Advancing the Science of Reading Act' (SB 242 of 2025). Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to assume responsibility for teaching elementary literacy courses as well as additional departmental coursework as needed. In accordance with the department's approved workload policy, tenure-line faculty have a 2/2 teaching load after their first two years. In the first two years, tenure track faculty teach a 2/1 or 1/2. Other responsibilities include developing an active research agenda, advising master's and doctoral students, chairing and/or serving on master's exams, theses, and doctoral dissertation committees; serving on department and university committees; contributing to program partnerships and initiatives. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: - Earned doctorate from an accredited university by the time of the start date of the appointment (August 2026) in K-8 Literacy/Reading Education, Bilingual/Dual Language Literacy, or a closely related field * - Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a literacy educator (broadly defined) in K-8 settings in the United States * - Evidence of certification, professional development, or coursework in the science of reading Preferred Qualifications: * Evidence of integrating a critical perspective on the science of reading into teaching, research, and/or service * Potential for excellence in research in an area that complements the mission, vision, and values of the department * Three or more years of experience teaching primary elementary grades and/or primary-aged learners * Experience with a variety of course delivery methods which could include full and accelerated terms, face-to-face, hybrid, synchronous online, and/or asynchronous online teaching * Demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities Application Instructions Only applications submitted through Applicants should provide (1) A detailed cover letter which articulates your approach to teaching, learning, and mentoring students and which makes direct connections between your education, experience, and the Preferred Qualifications listed; (2) a Current curriculum vitae; (3) Academic transcripts; and (4) Names and contact information for three professional references.
