About the Job

Duties/Responsibilities:

Research Activities: 80%
*Assist in the planning of research activities, in conjunction with the Principal Investigator, to ensure adherence to the project/study timeline(s).
*Provide assistance to other personnel in experiments.
*Breed key models and conduct experiments to assess gene therapies.
*Complete protein purification and assessment related activities, RNA and DNA isolation related activities, and perform real-time PCR related activities with
supervision from other personnel.
*Maintain accurate laboratory records that record research methods, procedures, and results.

Laboratory Management/Regulatory Compliance: 5%
*Help to ensure regulatory compliance for lab activities.
*Order and reconcile of laboratory supplies in advance of planned experiments.
*Coordinate lab activities/schedule to achieve research objectives.
*Maintaining, update and follow laboratory Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) as needed to be in compliance with UMN Environmental Health & Safety office.

Scholarly/Administrative Work: 15%
*Assist with data analysis and present findings/outcomes to the Principal Investigator

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
*BA/BS in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development OR a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years
*Mouse euthanasia and full necropsy experience.
*Mouse myofiber isolation experience.
*Experience with mouse behavioral assessments
*Assay experience; RNA, DNA, protein isolations.
*Willingness and ability to learn new skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience with muscle disease research (muscular dystrophy).
*Mouse gavage technique experience.
*Experience with tissue sectioning and immunofluorescence staining of cells and tissues.
*Presentation experience (graph and figure generation, etc.).
*0-2 years experience as a laboratory based undergraduate researcher.
*Skills in mouse husbandry, colony management, etc.
*Stem growing and differentiation experience.

Pay Range: $22.25/hr - $23.15/hr .depending on education/qualifications/experience.
