Technology Training Intern - Mobile Device & Digital Literacy
This position will help design, deliver, and support training programs focused on the iPad Mini and essential digital tools. This role is crucial in ensuring individuals can confidently and effectively use their devices and core productivity applications associated with the iPad Mini device for the Research Animal Resources department. The intern must have a passion for technology, strong communication skills, and an eagerness to help others achieve digital literacy, with a special focus on digital accessibility.
This is a part-time temporary position and the scheduled hours may vary depending on the training needs of the department. This position is deemed work Profile 1 - Office/Lab Based: Time spent working remotely is occasional or inconsistent. Dedicated on campus work space to be provided.

Key Responsibilities:
* Assist with training and content delivery. Facilitate and lead one-on-one and small group training sessions, both in person and virtual, on the fundamental use of the iPad Mini.
* Clearly and patiently instruct users on key functions, including: basic operations, turning on/off, understanding the dock, and navigating the settings app.
* Accessibility: integrating digital accessibility best practices into all training, ensuring all users can navigate the device effectively.
* Creating and managing webclip shortcuts to common services
* Providing email and messaging training to users within the Google suite
* Instructing users on using collaboration tools; using Zoom (downloading, signing in, joining a meeting, and starting video conferencing) Google calendar, and Google Chat
* Web browsing in Safari and Google Chrome
* Maintain accurate records of training attendance and topics covered
* Assist in the creation and refinement of user-friendly training materials, job aids, quick-reference guides, and videos.
* Complete competency assessments as trainees demonstrate their newly learned skills.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
* HS Degree or Equivalent
* Minimum one year of professional work experience specifically with Apple organization and or Apple products
* Proficiency and comfort with the Apple iOS operating system specifically with the iPad mini.
* Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users in a simple, patient and encouraging manner
* Strong organization skills and attention to details

Preferred:
* Prior experience in a teaching, tutoring, or formal training role.
* Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) or training platforms like Training Hub.
* Experience with one or more of the specific applications/systems mentioned ( e.g. Duo Mobile, MyU, Google Workspace)
* Knowledge of digital accessibility principles and assistive technologies.

About the Department

Research Animal Resources (RAR) primarily focuses on the service and administration of the animal care and use program at the University of Minnesota. The position of Laboratory Attendant is union represented, and is part of a staff of over 100 employees including Professional and Administrative staff, Civil Service staff, Union Represented members, and student employees. RAR has an approximate daily census of 24,000 rodent cages in 19 buildings split into geographic teams around the Twin Cities Campus.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Rate: $20/hour.
