About the Job

The University of Minnesota's Masonic Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism is an interdisciplinary team aimed at advancing research on the fundamental biology of aging. Our goal is to discover ways to therapeutically target aging, which will extend healthspan.

Primary responsibilities:
Specific technical/bench-work research (60%):
- Mouse handling, including ip injections, and tissue harvest.
- Sample prep and analysis for flow cytometry or western blot
- Independent data analysis and presentation of final results
- Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, and web-based applications.

General laboratory management duties (30%):
- Experiment preparation including reagent or buffer prep, and labeling.
- Follow established biological, chemical and physical safety procedures

Other duties as assigned (10%):
- General organization or cleaning tasks
- Requires the ability to work occasional weekend hours

Qualifications

Required:
- BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
- Willingness to handle mice and work under ABSL2 conditions.
- Experience in pipetting, harvesting of mouse organs and basic laboratory techniques

Preferred:
- Experience in tissue culture work
- Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills; comfort in working in a team
- Excellence in organizational skills

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20-23/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience.

FTE: 50% time or less
