The Lab's Facilities & Operations Production Division provides mechanical, architectural, and civil services to build, support and maintain the Lab's infrastructure. We seek a Grounds & Sanitization Supervisor to provide first-line supervision of the grounds and sanitation work group. The supervisor directs the work of employees in landscaping, lawn maintenance, tree and hedge pruning, snow removal, garbage collection and recycling, integrated pest management, and other related functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direction includes work assignments, training, scheduling, grievance handling, and technical direction.
  • Coordinate all work of the unit.
  • Provide / Coordinate various annual training topics to the work group including Annual Mower Training and Annual Snow Removal Training.
  • Maintain records and reports on work performed, performance of employees, attendance, and work of unit including use of pesticides and their application.
  • Filing of the Annual Pesticide Report.
  • Perform work requirement analysis, job layout, equipment selection, material orders, and labor hour estimates.
  • Work in close cooperation with other supervisors in a multi-trade environment to perform technical planning and job layout to ensure that all aspects of maintenance and projects are addressed.
  • Provide technical information to Laboratory customers on work performed such as landscape layout, eradication of pests, and environmental impacts.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A technical institute or associate degree in a related field, or equivalent, and eight (8) years of broad related experience in grounds, sanitation or a closely related work discipline with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Computer literate with experience using the Microsoft Suite of Office Products such as Word, Excell, Outlook (e-mail and scheduling), Powerpoint etc.
  • Experience working with preventive and corrective maintenance systems (Maximo Preferred), and/or the ability to become proficient with the use of the MRO program Maximo, including scheduling of work and providing weekly scheduling and metrics updates.
  • Estimating, project planning and the ability to coordinate & schedule multi-craft activities.
  • Must be able to communicate technical information on all levels within the organization, demonstrate good work habits and apply ES&H practices in the field.
  • Must be able to work extended hours during the winter months for snow clearing activities.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Licensed as a Certified Pesticide Applicator
  • Valid drivers' license

  • Ability to speak and understand speech
  • Ability to wear proper PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, Hi-Vis vest/clothing, hard hat, and hearing protection
  • Ability to work long/irregular hours

Other Information:

  • This is a fully onsite position located at BNL.
  • The regular hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Must be available after hours and/or weekends to meet project deadlines or requirements including snow removal operations.
  • Must provide a working telephone number to BNL for call-out and contact purposes.
  • Visa sponsorship for this position is not available.
  • This position reports the General Supervisor of the Production Division - Civil

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $89400 - $125000/ year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
