The Epic INTERMEDIATE INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER is the intermediate-level role responsible for ensuring training prepares Epic end-users for their work in service to patients and partners in a meaningful, efficient manner.

Responsibilities:

A primary differentiator for this role from Associate Instructional Designer is responsibility for following established Instructional Design principles in the creation and maintenance of curricula and educational materials, keeping these current with Epic changes. This role assigns and oversees the work of Associate instructional Designers in maintaining existing educational materials and managing tasks for new projects.

  • Applies Instructional Design principles and standards to assess learner needs and advance the experience of Epic learners. Designs and implements new job-relevant curricula, educational materials, and assessment tools for Epic users.
  • Reviews post-class survey data, implementing improvements in curricula development and delivery, auditing classes for compliance with curricula and other Presbyterian standards (for example, presentations which support diversity and inclusion standards, up-to-date Epic knowledge and skills).
  • Ensures educational programs and materials are current with Epic system changes. Serves as SME for Epic application as it relates to training learners. Ensures educational materials are usable by Trainers for both remote and in-person delivery.
  • Participates in credentialing program for Trainers.
  • Supports testing and design of new functionality and enhancements. Configures Epic training environment.
  • Provides application troubleshooting support for Trainers, end-users, and functional partner teams (Clinical Informatics, PMG Informatics, IT Analysts, Clinical Education, Coding, Compliance, Risk, Revenue Cycle, Epic Security and Environments teams and operational partners).

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required, 3 year experience will be accepted in lieu of degree
  • 2 years professional experience in Training, Information Technology, or Healthcare operations and/or 1-2 years in EHR deployment
  • Progression within the Career Band reflects increasing depth of professional Epic and Instructional Design core skills, knowledge and ability. Must have minimum of 2 years in Instructional Designer - Intermediate role to progress to Senior.
  • Demonstrates ability to facilitate learning with minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrates effective coaching, team building, written and verbal communication, training development, training delivery, end-user support, and project management skills.
  • Certification/Technical:
    Current Instructional Design certification within 6 months, Epic certification within 6 months plus successful completion of TED training within 6 months in role. Teach at least one class in each credentialed application annually.
    Experience with Microsoft Office tools, e-learning, microlearning, remote training management, classroom in-person management.
