Job Summary

UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is seeking an experienced facilities professional to oversee daily operations of the Resnick Agricultural Research Facility, located in Wasco, Ca. This on-site role will focus on managing building systems, coordinating maintenance and repairs, ensuring ammonia refrigeration system safety and compliance, and serving as the primary point of contact for contractors and service providers. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of facility operations and ensure a safe, reliable environment that supports research and production activities.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 1 yr experience in minimum qualifications (KSAs)
  • Ammonia cold-storage experience is a must.
  • Ability to oversee various facilities-related operational activities, including regular periodic rounds to inspect areas for security, coordination of emergency work, and coordination with contractors and inspectors.
  • Ability to represent the organization when working with external agencies regarding safety, access, maintenance, remodeling and inspection activities.
  • Written and organizational skills to maintain building related plans and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Thorough interpersonal skills including good service orientation and effective problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5yrs experience in minimum and preferred qualifications (KSAs).
  • Thorough and effective skills to multi-task and prioritize daily activities effectively.
  • Experience with budget development and management for moves and minor building infrastructure upgrades. This includes assistance with long-term planning and forecasting.
  • Experience in reviewing building management procedures and making recommendations for changes.
  • Experience collaborating with different departments on development of space planning.
  • Experience working with non-routine systems and / or research / specialized equipment.

Department Overview

The UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CA&ES) is the largest academic unit on the Davis campus, with over 3,700 acres devoted to research and teaching. The College serves more than 7,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students, supported by 380 faculty and Cooperative Extension specialists, 250 Academic Federation appointees, and over 800 staff engaged in administration, operations, and animal and crop care. CA&ES encompasses 20 departments, 18 centers and institutes, and more than 1.4 million square feet of teaching, research, and administrative space, along with extensive off-site research and teaching facilities throughout California. Among these is the new Resnick Agricultural Research Facility, located in Wasco, which features expansive cold storage, large greenhouses with thrip screens and airlocks, and a dedicated solar power system - providing an exciting opportunity to advance research and innovation in agricultural sciences.

The Facilities Professional at our Wasco nursery facility plays a critical and visible role within the department, serving as the on-site expert responsible for the daily management and operation of all building systems. In this position, they will oversee a wide range of facility activities-including maintenance and repairs, safety compliance, and administration of our ammonia refrigeration system. They will act as the main point of contact for all contractors and service providers, ensuring facility issues are addressed efficiently and effectively. Their leadership will directly support departmental research and production activities by maintaining a safe, reliable, and regulation-compliant environment. Through proactive management, they will minimize operational risks, safeguard valuable assets, and reduce downtime-allowing faculty, staff, and researchers to focus on innovation and achievement. Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
