Job Summary The Radiology Chief Technologist is responsible for all General Radiology Imaging across the UCSF enterprise.
This encompasses multiple departments at various locations within medical center campuses and Imaging Centers. S/he will have responsibility for a staff of more than 80 employees (FTE's), with 24-hour/7 day inpatient/outpatient responsibility. The Radiology Chief Technologist will participate in hospital committees as a representative of the Radiology Department; participate in construction projects and new equipment selection. The reporting structure for this position has both direct and indirect reports consisting of: Radiology Supervisors, General Radiology Technologists and support staff. Other personnel responsibilities will include hiring new employees, organizing the workflow, coordination of daily work schedules, and understanding of the union environment.
The day to day operations and productivity of the department are combined with performance improvement and quality initiatives designed for improvement of service levels and staffing. There is also budgetary responsibility as it relates to labor and non-labor expenses.
Additional responsibilities also include maintaining National Patient Safety Goals with all employees and following up on all safety related issues. The Chief Technologist will also demonstrate a commitment to the requirements of the clinical training program by the colleges that are associated with UCSF and actively have their departments and staff participate in training students.
Seeking a candidate with strong leadership skills, are required and ability to effectively communicate with staff, departments and physicians throughout the health system.
The Chief Technologist will operate at the highest level to provide management and other professionals with technical expertise and expert knowledge on Radiology Imaging. Seeking a strong leader with proven experience in leading cross-functional teams in the Radiology enterprise that interfaces with staff, departments and physicians throughout the UCSF system. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $227,200 - $277,000 (Annual Rate). Department Description The Radiology Department is a specialty medical service that offers a wide range of imaging techniques to diagnose and treat a broad range of medical conditions. The Diagnostic Section utilizes ionizing radiation through the use x-rays, radiography and fluoroscopy. At UCSF Medical Center, we offer the full spectrum of techniques, using the most advanced equipment. Combined with Bone Densitometry, Mammography, CT scans, MRI, PET, Ultrasound and Interventional we perform more than 500,000 procedures annually. In fact, a number of radiology advancements and applications were developed here.
Required Qualifications
- Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others. Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships.
- Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, persuade, advise, and counsel.
- 5 years' of experience in the field of radiology.
- Clinical practice knowledge and applied background in a radiology modality. Knowledge of terms, concepts, and protocols. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in an acute care setting to improve operations.
- Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates and effectively handles change.
- Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving Radiology processes, protocols, databases, and technology.
- Interpersonal skills to collaborate within and across departments.
- Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution. Demonstrates sound judgement.
- Licensed technologist in a radiology modality
- ARRT
- CRT
- BLS
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- 5 years' previous management or supervisory experience in an acute care setting and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Knowledge of relevant external regulations.
License/Certification
- Licensed technologist in a radiology modality
- ARRT
- CRT
- BLS
