Position Summary
The Data Abstractor's primary function will be data abstraction, transferring data from EPIC electronic medical records and research databases to CAREWare, an electronic record used to monitor and improve HIV care and reporting, and using Microsoft Excel for data collection and tracking. Data abstraction will be primarily performed for UNC and affiliated clinic sites; however, abstractions may be performed for affiliated clinic sites in Greensboro and Chapel Hill. Data abstractor will audit others to identify and correct any entry or analysis errors. They will systematically clean data in databases which includes identifying the issue, chart review via EPIC, updating CAREWare, and interdisciplinary communication and collaboration to ensure that data is accurate. Other duties will include building reports in the CAREWare database for required output, representing data in graphic form, participating in clinical quality improvement initiatives. Reviewing and validating data associated with invoices will be expected. Work and productivity will be monitored through a monthly tracking sheet and communicating with the team about the status of work on a weekly basis. The position requires proficiency and efficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. The position will work closely with the Ryan White data manager and data team to meet grant objectives and deadlines.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
This position will be hybrid and the person in this position may be required to attend on-site meetings, research team meetings and other local meetings in Greensboro and Chapel Hill as needed or directed by supervisors. The position requires confidentiality training, current Good Clinical Practice ( GCP) and Humans Subjects Protection ( HSP) training as well as other specific trainings which will be provided by the research team. Position requires a high attention to detail, strong organizational skills with expected fast paced work, and routine communication with data manager and data team.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be given to individuals with knowledge of data management, analysis, general medical terminology, and prior experience in the field of HIV.
