DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will conduct comprehensive inspections of transportation construction projects, ensuring accurate verification of grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways in partnership with contractors and surveyors. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the placement of materials like cement concrete and drainage systems, as well as performing compaction tests on various subsurface materials. Effective communication with department staff, governmental agencies, legislators, and the public is essential for smooth project administration. You will also maintain meticulous records through master diary entries, calculations, and project documentation, while addressing any field issues that may arise. Additionally, you will compile photographic evidence, create sketches, and summarize inspection results to confirm that contractor work adheres to established standards. Progress and compliance will be documented through reports, and material quantities and testing will be tracked using both manual and digital methods. The role also involves noting any changes in field plans and maintaining thorough quality control reports to ensure projects are completed efficiently and in line with all relevant policies. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
- You will report to project field office's locations within one of the following PennDOT Engineer District 8-0 counties, Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, York, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, or Perry County.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
