This position requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and a seasoned project manager experienced in leading multi-phase bridge design, rehabilitation, inspection, or major structure projects.

Project Management & Leadership

Lead all aspects of bridge-related projects, including design staff, inspection teams, subconsultants, and suppliers to ensure successful completion.

  • Develop and communicate the Project Management Plan, defining scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, risk management strategies, and safety protocols specific to bridge and structural engineering work.

  • Effectively manage scope and technical requirements for complex bridge projects, ensuring alignment with client expectations and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain detailed project schedules, proactively reducing delays by identifying opportunities for concurrent task execution.

  • Monitor project budgets and expenditures, implementing cost-control strategies to keep bridge projects within defined financial parameters.

  • Uphold rigorous quality standards, ensuring deliverables meet applicable codes (AASHTO, state DOT/Turnpike authorities, etc.).

  • Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring consistent communication, timely responses, and strong relationship management.

  • Collaborate with internal bridge engineering, inspection, and construction-phase services teams to support project execution and technical alignment.

  • Efficiently allocate resources, ensuring teams are staffed appropriately for design, modeling, analysis, and field efforts.

  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks-including structural, safety, schedule, and permitting risks-and develop mitigation plans.

Training, Development & Compliance
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level Bridge Project Managers and Engineers, fostering growth within the bridge practice.

  • Ensure compliance with all KCI policies, procedures, and engineering standards.

  • Provide input into the development and implementation of project-specific safety plans for bridge inspections, fieldwork, and construction-phase services.

Financial Management & Reporting
  • Negotiate contract terms, scope, and fees with clients and subconsultants for bridge engineering projects.

  • Develop project schedules from planning through construction, optimizing sequencing of structural design, load rating, inspection, and analysis workflows.

  • Report monthly proposal and business development metrics to the Senior PM or Practice Leader.

  • Meet individual utilization expectations (typically 70-80%).

  • Track and report project performance, implementing corrective actions when needed.

  • Deliver all bridge projects on time, within budget, and fully in accordance with contract scope.

  • Prepare monthly project progress reports and participate in project review meetings.

  • Manage project cash flow (WIP/AR) and coordinate with Finance and Operations.

  • Set up new projects and provide weekly updates to the Practice Leader.

  • Continually identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce project costs.

Business Development & Marketing
  • Participate in bridge project opportunity evaluations, consultant selections, and preparation of SOQs and technical proposals.

  • Identify new business opportunities, lead proposal development efforts, and promote KCI's bridge engineering capabilities to existing and prospective clients.

  • Support project closeout by preparing project write-ups, summaries, and photographs for marketing and resumes.

  • Engage in at least one industry or community organization (ASCE, ASHE, ACEC, IABSE, etc.).

Project Execution & Technical Oversight
  • Fully manage and oversee bridge design, inspection, load rating, rehabilitation, or construction-phase engineering deliverables.

  • Conduct site visits for bridge inspections, data collection, measurements, sketches, and condition assessments.
