Opportunity Overview

Southcoast Health provides comprehensive behavioral health consultation services across three community hospitals:

  • St. Luke's Hospital - New Bedford, MA
  • Charlton Memorial Hospital - Fall River, MA
  • Tobey Hospital - Wareham, MA

In addition, Southcoast Health is actively developing an integrated behavioral health program across affiliated ambulatory and specialty clinics.

This is a unique opportunity to join a notforprofit, mission-driven health system that is investing in the expansion of behavioral health services. The role offers meaningful opportunities for immediate direct patient impact, as well as departmental and programmatic development at the system level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide diversified ConsultLiaison (CL) Psychiatry services in support of the Southcoast Department of Psychiatry and Southcoast Physicians Group, in accordance with Massachusetts medical practice regulations.
  • Participate in a reasonable RVU model, balanced with the educational mission of the position and broader system-level impact goals.
  • Work within a proactive, teambased model that includes:
    • Dedicated behavioral health social workers
    • Mental Health Associates
    • Behavioral health nurses
  • Collaborate closely with medical teams and inpatient nursing staff to support patient-centered care, active management, and safe dispositions.
  • No regular evening or weekend coverage; voluntary, paid weekend shifts are available.
  • Opportunity for clinical supervision of APPs providing CL services.
  • Additional clinical/educational relationships exist with:
    • Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
    • Brown University
    • Boston Children's Hospital
    • Boston Medical Center
  • Programmatic leadership opportunities exist to work with Psychiatry and institutional leadership, including:
    • Expansion of hospital and outpatient behavioral health services
    • Addressing substance use disorders and geriatric psychiatry needs
    • Supporting a newly formed Addiction Medicine Consult Service
  • Opportunities to represent Psychiatry on institutional committees such as Bioethics and Quality Steering Committees.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Active Massachusetts medical license and DEA registration.
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence, strong patient satisfaction, and effective communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary with quality-based incentives.
