Job Description
General Purpose of Job: Registered Echo Sonographer is repsonsible for patient care performing daily echocardiograms. He/She will fulfill the objective(s) as put forth by UMH-Sparrow Heart and Vascular department. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position
- Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers prior to the examination, reviews the patient chart and history form, ease patient apprehension by thoroughly explaining the procedure and answering questions.
- Performs cardiac diagnostic procedures for the evaluation of the heart as it relates to Cardiology, Structural Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology and Pulmonology.
- Performs 2D-M-Mode and Doppler echocardiograms, 3D Dynamic Heart Model, Global Longitudinal Strain with a dedicated effort toward Oncology patients, Right heart focused strain, Left atrial strain for the EP Cardiologist, Stress Echos and Dobutamine Stress Echos.
- Performs each echocardiogram study following accredited standards with peer reviews quarterly.
- Completes all documentation in EPIC system and provides preliminary reports to reading Physicians in PACS system.
- Evaluates the need for Ultrasound enhancing agents such as Optison, Lumason or Definity as it relates to Echocardiography, performs IV access, removal of IV and completes proper documentation for billing. Maintains allergy kits in case of allergic response to the above listed agents.
- Provides clinical support at satellite locations.
- Collaborates with our Foundation on clinical research studies.
- Assist in training of Cardiology Fellows, Residents, Associates or students.
- Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, recognizes significant cardiac conditions which require immediate intervention.
- Continuing education for Registered Cardiac Sonographers per accredited body IAC requirements.
- Establish and maintain communications between the lab and physicians, UMH- Sparrow departments.
- Assist in scheduling for urgent/same day appointments and rescheduling patients in rare insists when equipment failure occurs.
- Ensures equipment is in sound working condition and is clean at all times and reports any equipment malfunctions.
- Restock and order supplies.
- Projects as assigned.
Job Requirements
| Work Experience |
* One year experience in all aspects of echocardiogram testing. |
| Education |
* High school diploma or GED. * Graduate from an accredited cardiac ultrasound program. * ARDMS, RDCS or CCI registered. If non-registered tech must be registered within sic months of hire or transfer date. * BCLS required * Valid Michigan drivers license |
| Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Knowledge of computer systems, programs and application * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job. |
