Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Plumbing Shop Manager supervise and coordinate the work of the Plumbing Systems Shop that includes Lead Plumbers, Plumbers, Facilities Mechanics, and Facilities Workers. In concert with Manager, responsible for full supervision, hiring, discipline, evaluation and termination of all shop employees who install, alter, and/or repair plumbing and water main systems and related equipment and infrastructure plumbing related systems. Review and coordinate daily schedules; review work and interface with client. Conduct job site assessment, prepare estimates; resolve project problems and ensure each job is closed and charged properly.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of construction trade practices/safety requirements sufficient to oversee all phases of repair/renovation work, prepare multi craft estimates, work scopes, budgets/schedules; address project related delays or disruptions and bring to closure within stated timeframes or guidelines (Required)
  • Working knowledge of UBC, OSHA, and ADA requirements as it relates to the plumbing trade. Working knowledge of the current Uniform Plumbing Code, NFPA: 99, 13, and 50 - title 24 code. Working knowledge of Federal ADA laws regarding access to restrooms etc. as it relates to the Plumbing Trade. (Required)
  • Detailed knowledge of all aspects of the Plumbing trade, materials, tools, equipment, methods and related codes sufficient to direct work, evaluate progress, oversee the work of journey-level Plumbing crews and ensure that craft work assignments met stated standards. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following plumbing areas: domestic, industrial, commercial, and/or process piping. Recent demonstrated experience and solid working knowledge of layout. Ability to produce and interpret isometric drawings (Required)
  • Skill in supervising and applying human resources management principles to a skilled trades unionized workforce. Working knowledge of human resources management sufficient to conduct performance evaluations, counseling, feedback sessions, and implementation of progressive corrective action. (Required)
  • Ability to establish/maintain cooperative working relationships and coordinate work with other construction trades. Oral communications skills to obtain or convey accurate information. Ability to prioritize assignments, organize work assignments of crew, and complete projects in a timely manner (Required)
  • Working knowledge of various types of materials including metals such as iron, steel, bras, copper or lead, and nonmetals: glass, vitrified clay and plastic of the plumbing trade. (Required)
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic in order to calculate layout and offsets with accuracy. Ability to read work project specifications, blue prints, and technical trade related manuals. (Required)
  • Ability to use personal computer and standard office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc.; working knowledge of facilities maintenance software (i.e. Maximo); and ability to program panels with manufacturer's supplied software. (Required)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, stand, crawl, walk and stoops, push, pull and lift or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (Required)
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed, or alternate shifts. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of asbestos removal (Preferred)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Other Type of Degree Satisfactory completion of a certified apprenticeship or equivalent education and experience. (Required)
  • Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
  • Must possess either a valid City of Los Angeles Plumbing License or California State Journeyman Plumbing License. (Required)
  • Possession of California State contractor's license C-36. (Preferred)
  • Possession of Certification of Medical Gas Piping and Medical Brazing; and Backflow Prevention Testor's Certification. (Preferred)

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.

  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
