Job Purpose
The Regional Safety Manager provides strategic leadership and hands-on oversight for Health and Safety programs across Fabick CAT's Missouri and Illinois operations. This role partners with operational leaders and the Safety Director to integrate safety into every aspect of our culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, MSHA, EPA, DOT, and Fabick CAT standards. The position drives continuous improvement, proactive risk management, and accountability to support Fabick CAT's STRIDE values and our Commitment to Safe Service.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Partner with the Safety Director and regional leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives that improve safety performance and employee engagement.
- Establish measurable goals for reducing risk exposure and monitor progress using leading and lagging indicators.
- Facilitate regular performance reviews and collaborate with managers to ensure continuous improvement.
- Champion Fabick CAT's culture by engaging employees and leaders at all levels in ownership of safe work practices.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Conduct, reinforce and train proactive risk assessments across service shops, field operations, warehouses and power generation to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, MSHA, ANSI, and EPA regulations, and Fabick CAT policies.
- Lead and document internal safety audits and inspections; oversee corrective action tracking and completion.
- Prepare for and assist during federal, state, and local inspections and investigations.
- Maintain and update the Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Incident Management & Analysis
- Lead or support root cause analyses for incidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses; identify corrective and preventive actions.
- Partner with the Safety Director to communicate findings, implement improvements, and verify effectiveness.
- Assist in managing workers' compensation claims and collaborate with HR and leadership to reduce recurrence.
Training, Communication & Engagement
- Assist with development and delivery of engaging training programs for employees, supervisors, and managers.
- Promote positive safety observations, near-miss reporting and proactive communication throughout the region.
- Collaborate with the regional athletic trainer (ATC) to ensure program effectiveness, including injury prevention and case management.
- Participate in and support local Safety Action Teams and Corporate Continuous Improvement (CI) Teams.
- Support onboarding and orientation for new employees to ensure they understand Fabick CAT's safety expectations and resources.
Data, Systems & Reporting
- Utilize digital platforms such as Avetta, ISNetworld, and internal systems to track compliance and performance metrics.
- Analyze safety data to identify trends, develop recommendations, and prepare reports for regional and corporate leadership.
- Present findings and progress updates through clear, visual, and actionable reports.
Emergency Preparedness
- Lead regional efforts to develop, test, and evaluate emergency response and business continuity plans.
- Maintain relationships with local fire departments, emergency responders, and mutual aid partners to enhance readiness.
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in Operations and Corporate Health and Safety promotions and initiatives.
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety with 2+ years of experience in Health and Safety or any other degree with 4+ years' experience in Health and Safety required
- Professional certifications such as CSM, ASP, CSP, CHST, or equivalent preferred.
- Experience within heavy equipment, or construction industries strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, ANSI, and EPA standards.
- Experience developing and implementing policies, training, and audits across multiple sites.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with leaders and team members at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with safety management software (Avetta, ISNet).
- Ability to travel up to 50% throughout Fabick CAT's Missouri and Illinois region.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, read, and hear. The position occasionally requires lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds, bending, squatting, and climbing. Regular travel to service branches, customer sites, and field operations is required, which may include exposure to outdoor and industrial environments. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided.
