This position offers remote work allowing employees a combination of onsite and work from home options. The expected remote workschedule for this position will be based upon the needs of the department.

Job Summary

Provides case management advisement to an assigned caseload of students by Field of Interest under a Guided Pathways model. May advise prospective students. Provides student service program support, processing, and information resource referrals by performing the more technically demanding program support tasks, including extensive responsibilities for student advising.

Essential Functions

70% - Provides professional-level end-to-end academic advising to a caseload of students, to support student learning, persistence, and degree completion through a variety of communication modes, including email, phone, WebEx and in-person services. Provides one-to-one and group academic advising, on-boarding, retention, and success support functions to students to ensure ongoing successful progress to completion of degree programs working within a Field of Interest (FOI). Provides guidance to students on goal setting, decision making, degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, registration, academic progress and satisfactory progress toward certificate/degree using PeopleSoft and other technologies. Identifies academic options including extracurricular activities, honors program, and scholarships. Provides advice and consultation to students in selection of options best suited to student goals, interests, and skills. As the assigned advisor, connects students with academic and personal resources including but not limited to, tutoring, counseling, and career services; recognizing individual student circumstances and identifying potential barriers. Provides ongoing outreach and proactive follow up to ensure student learning and progress outcomes are met. Handles immediate or sensitive issues requiring confidentiality or quality assurance. Assesses routine and unusual situations and reaches appropriate conclusions for actions as needed, consulting with others as necessary. Escalates matters requiring senior leadership intervention to a Supervisor and/or Director level. Monitors/tracks student academic progress through a variety of reporting tools. Performs higher level complex operations requiring technological ability and understanding of system processes for the benefit of the student such as creating and analyzing degree progress reports, course applicability compliance reviews, plan changes, prior credit evaluation reviews and more.

20% - Facilitates activities related to the Guided Pathways framework and the case management approach to program advisement. Provides programmatic support of this model by being an institutional resource to improve and advance the role of advisement in student success. Coordinates with College and District departments to promote programs on campus and within the community. Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units, faculty, and student services throughout the college and across the district to facilitate comprehensive academic support. Acts as college/department resource to current and prospective students, faculty, staff and external groups on issues related to academic advising, retention and success. May develop and provide training to other staff or departments one-on-one or collaboratively with a team. Interprets and explains College and Maricopa Community College District policies and procedures related to admissions, curriculum, advising, student success, and degree completion. Participates in department, location, and District meetings. Attends professional development opportunities related to academic advisement, FOI content, and trends and topics on higher education student success.

10% - Analyzes and maintains student and program data to gauge student learning and success, as well as program effectiveness. Coordinates, implements, and evaluates processes and procedures. Maintains database information and reporting systems. Makes recommendations for program and resource improvements by providing feedback on planning and degree assessment tools used to gauge, interpret and monitor students' progress. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

A. Bachelor's degree
B. Recent student services experience in a college or university setting
C. Recent academic advisement experience in a college or university setting
D. Strong oral and written communication skills (Note: application materials will be evaluated on this area.)

Special Working Conditions

Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense. Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations. May require numerous evenings or weekends. May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen. May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs. This position is for the Rio Salado - Tempe location but may be required to travel to other locations.

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:
